Inside The Met’s ‘Superfine: Tailoring Black Style’ Exhibition, Contemporary Designers Define the Modern Black Dandy
On Monday evening, the annual Met Gala honored the ‘Superfine: Tailoring Black Style’ exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute. The high-profile event saw notable cultural figures such as Rihanna in March Jacobs and Colman Domingo in Valentino grace the Met steps. However, TopMob was given an exclusive sneak peek of the exhibition a few days prior to the Met Gala, courtesy of the Metropolitan Museum, with guest curator Monica Miller, author of ‘Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identities’. Opening to the public on May 10, this exhibition delves into the history of Black dandyism and how fashion has impacted the formation of Black identities from the 18th century up until today. This display incorporates costumes, photographs, fine art, and additional historical items, furthering the stories told in Miller’s 2009 book.
Maison Margiela, Diesel, Jil Sander & More May See up to 9 Percent Price Hikes Due to Tariffs
On a Monday announcement, OTB Group expressed concerns about potential price hikes for its brands, should Trump’s disputed tariffs become enforced. As reported by Reuters, this Italian conglomerate, which includes luxury brands like Maison Margiela, Diesel, Jil Sander, Marni, Amiri, among others, is currently assessing the effects of increased tariffs on their overall product pricing.
At a press event about our company’s latest sustainability findings, OTB CEO Ubaldo Minelli stated, “We are examining specific actions, brand by brand, aimed at lessening our environmental footprint.” He added that preliminary estimates suggest a 8-9% price hike across the entire group would be necessary to counteract our overall impact.
Gucci to Show Cruise 2026 Collection at Brand Archive
Gucci has announced that their Cruise 2026 collection will be presented on May 15, at Palazzo Settimanni in Florence. This building, located on via delle Caldaie in the Oltrarno district, was acquired by Gucci way back in 1953. Once a factory, showroom, and initial workshop for the brand, it was transformed into the Gucci Archive in 2021, where it now houses a wealth of the house’s history. Demna is preparing to make his debut with this collection.
Gucci’s CEO, Stefano Cantino, stated that “The archive isn’t just a storage place for our history; it’s a vibrant area where Gucci’s unique identity traits are conserved and reinvented through ongoing conversations. Showcasing the 2026 cruise collection here underscores our connection to the cultural and artisanal legacy that shapes us, while propelling it into the future with consistency and determination.
POST ARCHIVE FACTION (PAF) Announced as Guest Designer at July 2025 Pitti Uomo
The popular menswear event, Pitti Uomo, has revealed that in July 2025, South Korean streetwear brand POST ARCHIVE FACTION (PAF) will unveil their SS25 collection as the show’s special invited designer. Although specific details about the date and format are yet to be disclosed, the event will receive backing from South Korea’s Ministry of Culture and Tourism and its Korea Creative Content Agency.
Lapo Cianchi, director of communications and events at Pitti Immagine, highlighted in a statement to WWD that South Korean brands are becoming increasingly important within the broader fashion industry. “For some time now, we’ve been focusing more on the culture and aesthetics of South Korea at Pitti,” he explained. He went on to say that this market is expanding significantly, carrying great importance for Italian fashion and for our fair as well.
Reebok Appoints Jide Osifeso as Head of Basketball
Reebok has recently appointed Jide Osifeso as their new Head of Basketball, as reported by BoF. Since taking on this position quietly last summer, the founder of streetwear label Hymne has been contributing his innovative ideas to Reebok’s basketball clothing and shoe line. With several collaborative projects under his belt, including work with Reigning Champ and Reebok, Osifeso is a renowned name in the industry. However, he also brings youthful energy that can help Reebok regain its contemporary cultural significance. Beyond designing merchandise for Kendrick Lamar and SZA, creating a special collection for Daniel Kaluuya in collaboration with Jordan Peele’s “Nope”, and working with other influential figures in modern pop culture, Osifeso joined Reebok back in 2019, when he was employed as Senior Director of Marketing–Footwear and Product Management.
Yoshida & Co. Celebrates 90th Anniversary With “Coyote” PORTER Tanker Bags
As a devoted fan, I’m thrilled to share that after 90 years in business, Yoshida & Co. has revealed a unique edition of one of their iconic pieces – the PORTER Tanker bag series. This time around, it’s dressed in an exclusive “Coyote” colorway, a first-of-its-kind 100% plant-based nylon material that Yoshida & Co. developed in collaboration with Toray Industries, Inc. This eco-friendly fabric lends an earthy tone to the collection’s seven bag styles: Daypack, Helmet Bag, Square Tote Bag, Sling Bag, Roll Bag, Hip Bag, and Envelope Bag. Inside each design, you’ll find a vintage flight-jacket-inspired “Traveling Map” print, adding a playful, peaceful vibe that perfectly fits this celebratory release. In their own words, “Everything has changed, and nothing has changed,” a sentiment that truly encapsulates the spirit of this honorary line.
