Liam Payne died with a $32-million estate and no will. Now his ex will help manage it
Liam Payne passed away leaving behind an estate valued in tens of millions, with no specified beneficiary in a will. In the interim, before the British court makes its final ruling, it seems administrative duties have been temporarily assigned to his ex-girlfriend, Cheryl Tweedy, and a legal advisor from the music industry, Richard Bray.
In cases where someone in the U.K. passes away without a will, their spouse or closest relatives have priority for inheriting their estate, as reported by The Guardian after examining court records. Interestingly, Tweedy and Payne, who were never married, share a son named Bear, who is currently 8 years old.

31-year-old singer-songwriter Liam Payne, previously known as a member of the pop group One Direction, tragically passed away after falling off a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires.
According to reports from the BBC following an examination of probate records, Tweedy and Bray have been given restricted control over the estate and are not permitted to disburse any funds. Instead, their role involves maintaining the deceased’s assets until a court grants a general authorization.
In the year 2016, Cheryl Cole, formerly known as Cheryl when she served as a judge on the U.K. “The X Factor” and who competed as a contestant alongside Payne in 2008 and 2010, began dating him. However, their relationship did not last long and they parted ways in mid-2018, roughly a year after Bear was born.
Last October, one of the members from the band One Direction tragically fell from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires following the consumption of multiple intoxicants. Payne had journeyed to Argentina to watch fellow band member Niall Horan perform solo two weeks earlier, accompanied by his girlfriend Kate Cassidy. It’s important to note that Cassidy, who departed Argentina several days prior to Payne’s death, is not involved in managing his estate.
Law enforcement officials discovered Payne’s hotel room filled with items associated with drug use, and subsequent testing revealed traces of a concoction made from designer drugs, known as “pink cocaine,” in his bloodstream. According to the authorities, the room contained numerous damaged objects and pieces of furniture, such as a shattered television screen.

Through Liam Payne’s own words, as well as conversations with his friends and colleagues, it becomes clear that the deceased pop icon was a gifted individual grappling with addiction amidst the glare of fame.
Police were sent to the hotel before the fall of the 31-year-old, following an emergency call about a potentially intoxicated man causing trouble. Upon arrival, officers heard a thump and discovered Payne’s body in the hotel courtyard. Further investigation suggested that Payne might have been partly unconscious or unaware when he fell.
At the specified moment, a police representative communicated that the popular singer, who is known for “That’s What Makes You Beautiful,” had apparently fallen or jumped from his balcony. Tragically, Payne succumbed to various injuries and both internal and external bleeding.
Initially, five individuals faced charges linked to his death in December, among them two hotel workers and a close associate of Payne’s. However, these three were acquitted in February as the court determined their actions did not lead to the singer’s passing. Two other suspects connected to Payne’s tragic end – another hotel staff member and a waiter – are still being held prior to trial. They were indicted in December for allegedly providing Payne with illegal substances before his death.
In 2017, a book penned by Maya Henry, an ex-girlfriend, was published. This book centers around a fictional member of a renowned boy band who contemplates suicide by jumping off a balcony. Remarkably, the story revolves around the character’s girlfriend intervening to prevent him from taking his own life.
