The home of “Selling Sunset” and “The Four Seasons” is getting a major renovation.
Netflix unveiled plans on Wednesday for a revamped layout and additional features coming to their TV homepage. As they expand their collection of movies, TV shows, live events, and games, these updates aim to enhance user experience.
Netflix announced changes to its TV homepage on Wednesday, including a new design and extra features. These adjustments are part of their strategy to grow their library of films, series, live broadcasts, and video games, with the goal of providing a better experience for users.
Upon entering the newly enhanced homepage, users will find supplementary details about show titles, like “Emmy Award Winner” or “Top Ranked in TV Shows.” Additionally, Netflix is incorporating motion effects to make their program images appear more dynamic and responsive. These improvements may include live events that could pique viewer’s interest.
The redesign aims to enhance viewer engagement by making the platform more interactive, and simplify navigation through Netflix’s vast collection of movies and shows.
In the ongoing battle among entertainment giants such as Disney, Warner Bros., Discovery, Paramount, and YouTube for viewer attention, it has grown increasingly crucial for streaming platforms to develop user-friendly and visually appealing apps – a factor often overlooked in the streaming competition.
Inefficient user experiences and difficulties locating desired content, often described as a vast sea of shows, are common issues consumers frequently voice while utilizing streaming platforms.
Netflix, headquartered in Los Gatos, California, announced that they will gradually launch this update worldwide, beginning on May 19 and continuing for several weeks thereafter.
During a press conference on Tuesday, Eunice Kim, our Chief Product Officer, mentioned that our members often perform various eye exercises as they navigate up and down, right and left, and back and forth between rows and title details on the homepage. She explained that they’re planning to make all necessary information for making a decision about what to watch more prominent and easy to find.
Netflix is experimenting with an AI-powered feature that allows users to find suitable titles by typing preferences like “something humorous and cheerful”. For instance, if you’re using Apple devices and decide to use this option, you can type in “I’m looking for something funny and uplifting”, and the system will suggest titles fitting your description.
OpenAI is providing some of the capabilities for the generative AI search function, Netflix said.

The Netflix Chief Product Officer, Eunice Kim, outlines their approach to suggesting shows and movies, as well as sharing insights on how the service will adapt as new content forms such as games are incorporated.
Additionally, the broadcaster mentioned they’re experimenting with a feature for mobile users, presenting videos vertically. This allows viewers to access brief clips of Netflix content, which can be tapped to start watching the entire show or movie instantly, saved for later viewing, or shared with acquaintances by simply revealing the title.
Watching videos vertically has grown significantly as more people consume content on their mobile devices due to the emergence of platforms like TikTok. This trend was then echoed by other apps such as Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts.
Towards the end of last year, Netflix announced they had introduced a mobile feature enabling members to save, revisit, and share scenes from their preferred shows. They plan to invest further into this area over the next few months. According to Kim, the most frequently saved scene was the kiss between Vi and Caitlyn in Season 2 of “Arcane.
Kim stated that these characteristics are designed to encourage viewers to start watching and continue doing so because when someone discovers a show they really enjoy, they’re more inclined to share it with their friends, which attracts more people to Netflix, leading them to press play, watch, spread the word, and so on. This cycle wouldn’t be feasible without advanced technology.
