Classic ’90s blockbuster that is still hilarious nearly 30 years later gets new UK streaming home

In the UK and Ireland, the iconic ’90s hit movie “Men in Black” along with its subsequent sequels has recently found a new platform for streaming online.

As of today, you can stream the entire Men in Black series – including the original from 1997, Men in Black II from 2002, Men in Black 3 from 2012, and the spin-off/revival, Men in Black: International from 2019 – on Netflix.

In the initial movie, we follow Will Smith’s character, a policeman, who discovers there are extraterrestrials and an enigmatic group tasked with shielding our planet from harmful ones.

In the movie, he partners with a rigid and stern agent portrayed by Tommy Lee Jones, along with a witty pug named Frank. The film turned out to be a blockbuster success and even produced a number one hit single in the UK.

In the second movie, the pair returned for another round of similar adventures, whereas the third flick incorporated time-travel elements and featured Josh Brolin portraying a younger version of Jones’ character.

In the new installment, Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson were added as fresh agents, joining some familiar faces (including the adorable pug) from past movies.

The response wasn’t exceptionally favorable; Digital Spy’s critique pointed out that the storyline was sadly unoriginal and repetitive.

The film takes place in a universe where extraterrestrials coexist with humans, and the most compelling plot it offers involves a traitor within Men in Black, reminiscent of the format found in 24 or other espionage dramas, combined with some amusing yet uneasy buddy dialogue.

To be honest, it wasn’t particularly engaging, mainly because the outcome was predictable once clear indications were given, which were quite pronounced.

The film Men In Black, however, proved more successful, as we placed it among Will Smith’s top five acting performances.

All four Men in Black films are available to stream now on Netflix UK and Ireland.
