Leighton Meester Breaks Silence on Michelle Trachtenberg’s Tragic Death After Cause Revealed
In a new interview, Leighton Meester speaks candidly for the first time about the passing of her close friend and fellow Gossip Girl cast member, Michelle Trachtenberg.
The 39-year-old actress described Trachtenberg’s death in February as ‘devastating.’
She shared her thoughts about the actress who played Harriet The Spy following the disclosure of her cause of death last month, even though her family had previously asked for confidentiality regarding the matter earlier.
In an interview with Flaunt magazine, Leighton fondly characterized Michelle (who tragically passed away at the same age) as an exceptional and gifted individual.
‘It’s devastating,’ she said of the loss, adding that ‘everyone loved her.’
‘It’s very, very sad for everyone who knew her,’ Leighton said.
She starred on Gossip Girl as one of the leads alongside Blake Lively from 2007 to 2012.

In February, officials from the New York Police Department were called to an apartment in the Hell’s Kitchen area of Manhattan, as they found Trachtenberg in an unconscious and unresponsive state.

Police reported on February 26, 2025, around 8:01 AM, they were dispatched to 1 Columbus Place due to an emergency call about someone needing assistance. This incident occurred within the jurisdiction of the Midtown North Precinct.
Upon their arrival, officers found a 39-year-old woman who was unconscious and unresponsive. EMS arrived at the scene and declared the woman dead.
‘There’s no reason to think it was a crime. We’ll find out what caused the person’s death from the Medical Examiner. The investigation continues.’
In 2020, Trachtenberg began a romantic relationship with Jay Cohen, a movie-focused partner at The Gersh Agency where he works. Cohen and Trachtenberg have often expressed admiration for each other on their respective social media platforms.
Following the death of his partner, the entertainment industry professional informed DailyMail.com that the family would refrain from making any comments regarding this unfortunate event.
Trachtenberg generally was not one to speak publicly on her private medical battles.
