FBI’s Shocking Maggie Moment Had Me Freaking Out
Heed this: Details about Episode 20 from the seventh season of FBI, titled “Startup,” may reveal too much if you haven’t watched it yet. It will be accessible for streaming the following day with a Paramount+ membership.
In the spring 2025 television lineup, CBS seems to be running low on episodes from the FBI franchise. Interestingly, the original series is set to return in the fall, but neither of the spinoffs will continue. Despite this, there are still a couple of episodes left for Season 7 before it concludes, which took me aback considering the finale-like atmosphere surrounding Maggie‘s storyline in “Startup.” What surprised me was that she ended her relationship with Joel, despite things being quite good between them only a few weeks prior. To add to the surprise, an explosion occurred which temporarily stopped her heart.
Typically, I wouldn’t worry much about the outcome of a main character in an episode that’s not a finale or premiere, but the recent unexpected turn in another prime-time TV show has me anxious… despite it being on a different network. [Spoiler alert for ABC’s 9-1-1 Season 8.]
If 9-1-1 Could Kill Off Bobby, Who Else Could Die?
As a devoted movie enthusiast, I must confess that I haven’t been a regular viewer of “9-1-1” whether it was on Fox or its current home at ABC. However, the tragic news about the departure of Bobby Nash, portrayed by Peter Krause, who has graced our screens in shows like “Parenthood” and “Six Feet Under,” caught my attention back in April.
Although I understand that the storyline of ABC’s “9-1-1” doesn’t interfere with CBS’s “FBI”, emotionally, it has put me on high alert when it comes to main characters. The news was a shock, and for good reason too. The first responders in “9-1-1” are often thrust into life-threatening situations that end in remarkable survival stories. So, I find myself keeping a closer eye on the fate of these characters than usual.
I’m discussing a series that blended elements from “The Poseidon Adventure,” cyber-pirates, and a swarm tornado (bee-nado), followed by another crisis just months later, without any significant characters meeting their end. The unexpected turn of events was the death of Peter Krause’s character, which came as a shock, considering it happened with only a few weeks remaining before the Season 8 finale. If someone had predicted this scenario a month ago, I would have found it absurd, and one of Krause’s fellow actors was reportedly overcome with emotion while filming it.
It’s clear that the shows “9-1-1” and “FBI” are quite distinct, so I’d double-check the channel if Missy Peregrym’s show ever hinted at a swarm of bees turning into a tornado. However, the fact that one primetime TV show has already written off a main character before the finale is making me a bit more uneasy than usual about fictional near-deaths becoming real ones. To make things worse, other series within the Dick Wolf TV universe have been reducing their cast members, with “Chicago Fire” losing two and “Law & Order: SVU” letting go of Juliana Martinez and Octavio Pisano as regular series characters before the fall premiere season.
Was it possibly an exaggerated response to assume that Maggie might truly be deceased? Indeed, it was a plausible reaction!

Maggie’s Near-Death Experience Was A Great Twist
Thankfully, the FBI didn’t resort to an abrupt ending by eliminating a key character close to the season finale, and OA’s quick actions revived Maggie. Amazingly, Maggie was in better condition than anticipated following the drone explosion that seemingly slammed her against a wall without any head protection. Fortunately for her, she survived with only minor injuries after being rescued by OA. If only “9-1-1” viewers had been as fortunate as Maggie regarding Bobby’s character!
In my opinion, what occurred didn’t seem like a deceptive tactic since Maggie’s close call was ultimately resolved in a satisfying manner at the episode’s end. Instead of OA comforting Maggie with blankets and painkillers before departing, he organized for Scola and Dani Rhodes to visit, offering wine, companionship, and burgers. It was clear that OA didn’t want Maggie to be alone following her ordeal, and this moment added warmth to a series that frequently centers around work.
From the sneak peek at the upcoming episode, it appears that the spotlight will fall on Isobel, while Maggie recovers and returns to her active role. Here’s a quick glance:
In two weeks, the second-to-last episode of FBI will air this spring, followed by the season finale a week later on CBS Tuesdays at 8 p.m. Eastern Time. Until then, don’t forget to catch up with Maggie and her team solving new cases every Tuesday on CBS. As for next season, it’s unclear if CBS will keep FBI in its current time slot during the fall due to recent cancellations of shows like FBI: International and FBI: Most Wanted. However, since a spinoff titled FBI: CIA is in development, there will still be at least one more show in the franchise remaining.
