Last year, Gabriella Gamez released one of my most cherished romance novels of the year titled “The Next Best Fling“. Consequently, I was thrilled to get an early read of “Kiss Me, Maybe” and express my opinions on it.
If you’ve yet to dive into the world of “Librarians in Love,” let me fill you in! “Kiss Me, Maybe” is the second installment, and this time around, it’s a heartwarming sapphic tale. I can’t wait for you to join Angela on her journey as she embarks on a romance all her own, working side by side with Marcela.
It’s worth noting that Gabriella Gamez’s narrative doesn’t have a promising beginning, and this unfavorable start plays a significant role in the story. I’d like to delve into the plot shortly, but for now, let me share that Gabriella Gamez is quickly becoming one of my most cherished authors.
I’m grateful to Forever for bringing this book to my attention and providing me with an advance reader copy. This allowed me to read and share my thoughts about it earlier. To be honest, I would have loved this book regardless, but it was definitely a treat to get it from Gamez!
Kiss Me, Maybe is a satisfying sapphic romance.
The movie “Kiss Me, Maybe” introduces its protagonist, Angela (or Angel), differently from most romance films. She posts several TikTok videos, one of which is a flirtatious video that leads her to acknowledge she’s a part of the ace/asexual community, meaning she has little or no sexual attraction. Furthermore, she confesses she hasn’t kissed anyone or been in a relationship, even though she’s in her twenties. Seizing the opportunity from her recent viral fame, she decides to make the most of it.
Although Angel often shares details of her life, she chooses to seek a romantic partner through social media, which she’s turning into a fun scavenger hunt. However, there’s a twist – she’s collaborating on this with her long-standing crush, Krystal. Krystal is the bartender at Angel’s favorite watering hole, and it’s evident that they have more than just a casual friendship; their bond hints at something deeper, suggesting that their relationship could deepen further.
Let’s dive into the romance that beautifully blends the elements of a gradual build-up and friends becoming lovers. I found it delightful watching these two characters slowly uncover their feelings without rushing into action. The passionate moments between them were equally captivating. Angela’s behavior with Krystal in intimate situations was quite unexpected, yet it added an exciting twist to the story.
What truly captivated me about this book was its unique, novel quality. It’s rare to find books with protagonists identified as ace, and watching Angela’s story unfold was genuinely intriguing. The way Gabriella Gamez integrated social media into the narrative seemed perfectly natural yet never overpowering. This book was an absolute joy to read, one that I couldn’t put down and finished within a single afternoon.
If you found “The Next Best Fling” enjoyable, don’t forget to add “Kiss Me, Maybe” by Gabriella Gamez to your To-Be-Read list. She’s rapidly becoming one of my favorite authors, and I’m eagerly anticipating her next release.
Kiss Me, Maybe by Gabriella Gamez is out now, where books are sold.
