What is Heavy Metal in Destiny 2? New PvP game mode explained
Just a heads up! The upcoming Destiny 2 update, version 8.2.6, is nearly here. And guess what? It’s bringing a fresh new game mode for the Crucible: Heavy Metal!
Fans of player-versus-player (PvP) action in Destiny 2 (D2) have something exciting to look forward to! Starting from May 9, which is just a few days after Update 8.2.6 on that date, the Heavy Metal mode will be introduced. This fresh addition arrives alongside a new activity based on dungeons, called Rite of the Nine, and a sandbox update. The Heavy Metal event promises to deliver fun, wild, and groundbreaking experiences.
While Bungie provided a sneak peek of gameplay during their developer livestream on March 4, there’s further information about the new game mode available to us.
Heavy Metal: Blast your enemies away with Drake Tanks and Fallen Brigs
Engaging in standard Player versus Player (PvP) battles in Destiny 2 can be quite enjoyable, and over time, various forms of it have emerged within the game. Familiar modes like Iron Banner or Trials of Osiris are common examples. However, there have been other modes too, such as Sparrow Racing from Destiny 1 and Trials of the Nine, though they may not return. But, excitingly, Bungie has announced that Heavy Metal will be added with Update 8.2.6.
In Destiny 2’s unique twist on Player versus Player (PvP), Heavy Metal mode offers an exciting change. Instead of the usual gameplay, participants can command either a Fallen Brig or a Drake Tank. The objective here is to destroy your adversary’s vehicle to accumulate points.
1 point is given for each vehicle that’s destroyed, and an additional coin is dropped from those vehicles which can be picked up to earn another point. Gathering coins is crucial for survival since they facilitate health restoration and provide extra ammo for secondary weapons. Leaders you kill will be more formidable, but their demise will alert enemies who can then claim a 2-point golden coin bounty on them. The team that first reaches a total of 50 points wins the game.
On March 4th’s developer livestream, we were given our initial glimpse into the intense combat of Heavy Metal. The brief excerpt showcased some of the gameplay testing for this mode. This sneak peek left gamers eagerly anticipating a more enjoyable experience in D2.
Event cards become Event Home
As an excited fan, I’m thrilled about the latest update that introduces a fresh Event Hub, packed with daily and weekly contests, along with a comprehensive Event Leaderboard. This leaderboard offers a host of goodies such as weapons, emblems, enhancement resources, and plenty more. Accompanying this feature is Event Currency, which can be spent in the In-Event Shop to acquire new rewards during each event.
Enthusiasm among players is running high as they eagerly anticipate the arrival of Destiny 2’s Heavy Metal PvP mode, set to drop following Update 8.2.6 on May 9. Prior to that, fans can look forward to a sneak peek at Destiny 2’s upcoming expansion, The Edge of Fate, which will be unveiled on May 6.
