At the end of this month, the controversial British show “Secret Diary of a Call Girl,” starring Billie Piper, will no longer be available on Netflix.

According to the blog “Belle de Jour: Diary of a London Call,” the TV show is set in London and focuses on a character named Hannah Baxter (Piper), who leads a secret life as a high-end escort under the name Belle.

Created by Lucy Prebble and debuted in 2007, this show spanned over four seasons until it concluded in 2011. Later, it moved to Netflix as its broadcasting platform.

Interestingly, it has a critic score of 48% on Rotten Tomatoes based on 31 reviews.

In their review, Variety noted that the series employs an intelligent strategy, using traditional British decorum as a backdrop and a leading character who is comfortable existing beyond the boundaries of the law.

Entertainment Weekly stated that the show, much like Belle, exhibits intelligence too great to adopt a commonplace mentality.

While The Philadelphia Inquirer expressed their thoughts: “The British press, often too comfortable, exploded last fall when Diary debuted, criticizing it for glamorizing prostitution. However, it actually portrays the opposite character. It’s hard to admire such a character devoid of soul as this.

According to The Guardian, the show was considered “quite mediocre,” whereas The New York Times found “Secret Diary” to have humorous elements, yet felt that those elements were insufficient to carry a full series.

Secret Diary of a Call Girl will be available to stream on Netflix until 29 May.
