The post-credit sequence in “Thunderbolts” represents the most significant costume change for Bucky since “Captain America: Civil War,” hinting that he will maintain this appearance in “Avengers: Doomsday.

In the Marvel Comics storyline “Captain America: Sentinel of Liberty,” Bucky Barnes infiltrates a clandestine organization known as The Outer Circle. He assumes the identity of Gavrilo Princip, the historical figure who assassinated Archduke Franz Ferdinand and sparked World War I, taking on the alias “The Revolution.” His goal is to bring down The Outer Circle from within, which leads him to betray Steve Rogers. Later, Bucky returns to his heroic ways and establishes a new Thunderbolts team, recruiting members like Red Guardian and Yelena Belova. However, he continues using the name “The Revolution” and donning its costume.

In the redesign for Bucky Barnes’ character in Revolution, we see him wearing a black armor set consisting of a vest, pants, boots, and a coat embellished with a big star outlined in red. A notable change is his hairstyle, now styled as a bun instead of the previous haircut. His arm prosthesis has also been updated to a more streamlined design. Following their victory over the Outer Circle, Bucky retains his costume but reverts to his former appearance with loose hair and a domino mask.

As a devoted cinema enthusiast, I must say that after clearing my name, shaking off the Winter Soldier programming, and teaming up with the Avengers, there wasn’t much left for good ol’ Bucky Barnes to do. However, in the thrilling series “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” and the action-packed “Thunderbolts”, Bucky played pivotal roles, helping Sam Wilson reclaim the Captain America mantle and aiding the team in defeating the Void. Since his significant appearance in “Captain America: Civil War”, Bucky hasn’t had as much screen time in the MCU. If Bucky’s Revolution storyline is more than just a wink to the Thunderbolts, it might signal a fresh start for Sebastian Stan’s Bucky, both as an intriguing character and a potential new Avenger.
