Nickelodeon Star’s Shocking Role in The Last of Us: You Won’t Believe It!
In the minds of many devotees, Josh Peck will forever be associated with the character Josh Nichols from the Nickelodeon show that he shared the screen with Drake Bell. Following the conclusion of this series in 2007, Peck took on roles such as voicing Casey Jones in Nickelodeon’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and appearing in other productions like and How I Met Your Father. However, some followers of Peck might have been taken aback by his recent appearance in the HBO Max series.
In the fourth episode of Season 2 of “The Last of Us,” titled “Day One,” the character Peck briefly appeared, portraying a gruff FEDRA soldier named Janowicz. This character shared an off-putting story while seated in the back of a truck during a flashback sequence in the episode.
Peck shared a collection of images showcasing him on the set of the popular dystopian horror series, which he’s been a fan of for a long time. He wrote in his caption, “Boy, I had quite a struggle keeping this under wraps. It was a privilege to contribute a small role to one of my beloved shows, alongside one of my most respected actors. Many thanks to [HBO, The Last of Us, and Craig Mazin] for the opportunity.
“That Was So Fun”
Kate Herron, the director of “Day One,” expressed her excitement about having Josh Peck join the cast for an episode. She stated, “Working with Josh was such a blast. We auditioned other actors for the role, naturally. When Josh’s audition arrived, we were immediately impressed by his talent. We thought, ‘We must have Josh!'” She also added, “Moreover, the concept of it just being Josh…I enjoy the surprise factor reminiscent of Drew Barrymore in Scream. It’s something people wouldn’t expect.
In the scene of Peck’s “The Last of Us,” there’s a flashback to 2018, transporting viewers to the quarantined zone in Seattle – a place Ellie (unspecified) and Dina (Isabela Merced) visit 11 years later. The character Janowicz narrates a tale to his FEDRA soldiers about three individuals they arrested for distributing leaflets. These people were referred to as “voters” by FEDRA, a term used after their right to vote was revoked in Seattle. Upon Janowicz’s request for backup, a fellow soldier named Greenberg appeared.
Peck’s Cameo Comes to an End Quickly
The story unfolds as Janowicz shares an off-color tale involving a voter needing to clarify the meaning of disseminating. Unfortunately, Peck’s segment in “The Last of Us” abruptly concludes following his delivery of the inappropriate narrative. In a decisive move, Isaac Dixon () chooses to rescue only one soldier, Burton (Ben Ahlers), while the rest are trapped inside the vehicle with live grenades. This is the point where Isaac distances himself from FEDRA and eventually joins the Washington Liberation Front (WLF), an organization he would later lead.
People familiar with the horror genre might predict this, and they may think something along the lines of ‘I sense his death is imminent, yet it’s unexpected,'” Herron explained.
The Last of Us streams on Max. The next new episode will premiere on May 11 on HBO.
