White Lotus Star Wants American Psycho Role!
Patrick Schwarzenegger expresses interest in joining a forthcoming remake, mentioning he’d be keen to secure a role. Notably, this actor from the HBO series “The White Lotus,” where he portrayed an irritating wealthy young man whose inner insecurities surfaced during his stay at the Thai hotel branch, has likely seen his career skyrocket following Season 3’s success. However, there seems to be a particular character role that Patrick is pursuing: the lead character, Patrick Bateman, from the chilling thriller “American Psycho.
Development is underway for a fresh take on “American Psycho,” with Luca Guadagnino, director of “Suspiria” and “Challengers,” set to lead the project. The cast for this upcoming adaptation has yet to be revealed, though Austin Butler from “Elvis” had been speculated as a strong contender for the role of Patrick Bateman. However, Guadagnino has not yet commented on this possible casting choice.
Playing the main role in the movie American Psycho isn’t an easy choice for many actors due to the character’s intricate nature and potential controversial aspects. However, Schwarzenegger appears eager for the task of portraying the bloodthirsty Wall Street banker, expressing his interest via a tweet in response to user @willemragnarssn who suggested him for the remake. On Twitter (X), he wrote, “I’d absolutely adore it!
On previous occasions, Schwarzenegger had made clear his affection for this project. As far back as last October, he indicated his enthusiasm for the remake of Guadagnino’s American Psycho, expressing it as his dream.
In 2000, Bret Easton Ellis’ novel was transformed into a movie by Mary Harron, with Christian Bale portraying the character of Patrick Bateman. This chilling thriller soon garnered a dedicated fanbase, who admired Harron’s bold approach in adapting such a contentious tale for the silver screen. The film also featured performances from Willem Dafoe, Samantha Mathis, Josh Lucas, Justin Theroux, Jared Leto, Chloë Sevigny, and Reese Witherspoon.
Patrick Schwarzenegger Isn’t the Only One Showing Interest in the ‘American Psycho’ Remake
The upcoming plans for Luca Guadagnino’s work remain unclear. His DC Studios superhero project, Sgt. Rock, has been rescheduled to 2026, leaving questions about where his adaptation of American Psycho fits into his current timeline. Scott Z. Burns’ script for the film is reportedly still in development, with casting likely to follow once completed. At some point, Guadagnino will need to choose the actors who will portray both the iconic character of Bateman and the rest of the story’s eccentric and vibrant characters.
Nevertheless, one actor from the initial film has previously proposed an intriguing concept to Guadagnino. Chloë Sevigny, who played Bateman’s secretary Jean in the original production, shared with IndieWire her ambition to reprise her role as Jean. All she requires is a touch of cinematic enchantment to bring the character back to life once more.
As a movie enthusiast, I was intrigued when whispers hinted at Luca Guadagnino potentially directing a project. Initially, it seemed he was set to tackle a World War II narrative. However, an enticing proposition came my way – a reprisal of my role as Jean, with the unique twist of time reversal effects applied to me. I believed this idea would resonate with Guadagnino, given his appreciation for unconventional storytelling and the intrigue of having the same actress portray the same character. Yet, he hinted at contemplating a different role for me instead.
