Unbelievable: The Goonies Sequel Confirmed 40 Years Later, Original Now Free to Watch!

The timeless coming-of-age adventure movie from Warner Bros., originally released in theaters over four decades ago, has now secured a new platform for streaming. This iconic 1985 production was masterfully brought to life by Oscar-winning director Steven Spielberg, who also penned the story’s conception.

At the moment, you can stream “The Goonies” for free on Tubi. This classic adventure film features a talented cast of up-and-coming stars like Sean Astin, Josh Brolin, Ke Huy Quan, and Corey Feldman. The narrative revolves around Mikey (Astin), who stumbles upon a mysterious map he thinks could lead them to the elusive treasure of pirate One-Eyed Willy. In an attempt to prevent their homes from being repossessed, Mikey, his elder brother, and friends embark on a remarkable treasure quest, complete with dodging traps and thwarting the Italian Mafia.

The movie “Goonies” was directed by Richard Donner, who is famous for making Superman, from a script written by Chris Columbus, who later became well-known for the original Home Alone films and the early Harry Potter movies. The cast included Sean Astin, Josh Brolin, Ke Huy Quan, Corey Feldman, along with Jeff Cohen, Kerri Green, Martha Plimpton, John Matuszak, Robert Davi, Joe Pantoliano, Anne Ramsey, and Mary Ellen Trainor.

The Goonies Sequel Is In Development

Even though years have gone by, the film has managed to keep a Certified Fresh rating of 77% on Rotten Tomatoes, backed by 65 reviews. It remains widely regarded as one of the best movies ever made. Recently, it was officially announced by Warner Bros. executive Pam Abdy that there are plans underway to produce a continuation. “We’re extremely thrilled about Amblin working alongside Chris Columbus on new installments in both the ‘Gremlins’ and ‘Goonies’ series,” she stated.

More information about the eagerly anticipated sequel’s storyline and characters remains confidential before the official announcement. But before that, rumors hinted that (Old Henry) might have been chosen to write the sequel script. It is also speculated that it will be produced by Spielberg, Kristie Macosko Krieger, and Holly Bario under Amblin Entertainment and Columbus, with Lauren Shuler Donner acting as a supervising producer.
