Gemstones’ Wild Finale: Bullets, Bible Battles, and Shocking Family Redemption!
The final season of HBO’s “The Righteous Gemstones” ended dramatically on Sunday night, filled with several explosive moments, wrapping up another hilarious journey with our beloved, eccentric evangelical family in a wildly exaggerated and dramatic fashion.
In the second-to-last episode of the series, when it appeared that the vicious storyline would conclude with Cobb Millsap (played by Michael Rooker) being devoured by his pet gator Big Gus, it became clear that this was not the end. The final episode, titled “Raising Holy Hell One Last Time,” revealed a shocking twist: Cobb’s son Corey (Sean William Scott) had been involved in his father’s murderous rampage and had hidden the stolen, valuable bible made of gold. Plagued by his past actions, Corey decides to take revenge on Jesse (Danny McBride), Judy (Edi Patterson), and Kelvin (Adam Devine) while dressed as Michael Jackson. This leads to a brutal gunfight within the Gemstones’ opulent vacation home, Galilee Gulch, while the family remains blissfully unaware on the lake.
In an unexplained twist of fate, either divine intervention or mere chance, the Gemstone siblings miraculously dodge several of Corey’s bullets. This is largely due to the quick-thinking actions of Dr. Watson, their agile Capuchin monkey, who manages to retrieve Jesse’s pistol from an upstairs bedroom at the critical moment. With the pistol in hand, the eldest sibling manages to shoot down their attacker with a skillful shot to the head. (This comes after his decision not to kill his megachurch rival during a sanctioned duel.) As they kneel over Corey and pray fervently while he bleeds out, it brings to mind the season’s powerful opening scene, where Bradley Cooper portrayed a fake Gemstone preacher praying with Confederate soldiers moments before their deaths.
The show’s comedic Shakespearean twist, as skillfully portrayed by McBride throughout the series, is maintained – yet, it doesn’t conclude in a somber manner. Instead, each family member from the Gemstone clan experiences their own resolution towards the end, with the guidance of the deceased matriarch, Aimee-Leigh (Jennifer Nettles). Despite her untimely demise being a long-standing source of sorrow for them, her immortal spirit seems to have given its silent blessing for everyone, particularly Eli (Jon Goodman), to ultimately find peace and move forward.
He was sentenced to prison for embezzlement and misuse of church funds.
* Pastor Elijah Thompson: He was found guilty of child molestation and is awaiting sentencing.
* Bishop Samuel White: He resigned after being accused of sexual misconduct with multiple women in his congregation.
* Father Michael O’Connell: He was suspended from his position for making inappropriate comments to female parishioners.
* Pastor Mary Anderson: She was removed from her role after she was caught embezzling funds from the church.
As McBride concludes each story, it becomes clear that these individuals have let down their communities and their faith by engaging in immoral and illegal behavior. It’s a sad reminder of the importance of accountability and integrity within religious institutions.
Uncle Baby Billy
Following several weeks of disregarding his wife’s worries about his family time, character Billy (portrayed by Walton Goggins) experiences a sudden realization on the set of “Teenjus”. This spontaneous decision to halt the show towards its end, which carries a hefty financial risk for the Gemstone family, underscores Billy’s new perspective. It could also mean some well-deserved rest for their nanny, Sola. However, it’s crucial to find ways to improve Billy’s work-life balance so that he can continue his ‘sword and sandals epic’. If the show “Bible Bonkers” can achieve success, why not “Teenjus”?
Jesse Gemstone
The prayer booths proved ineffective, due to excessive misuse. He failed to secure a nomination for the Top Devout Man award. His sons are experiencing friction. These issues could have sent Jesse into a downward spiral, but by the end of season 4, after triumphing over rival Vance Simpkins (Stephen Dorff) in a duel and displaying humility by sparing his life, he appears to have undergone a slight maturation. He’s begun to follow his late mother’s advice and acknowledge that his father deserves happiness with Lori (Megan Mullally), despite his reservations about another woman in his life. It remains uncertain whether Jesse and his siblings can keep the Gemstone enterprise afloat without Eli. However, it’s heartening to see Gideon reconcile with Pontius by constructing a skatepark themed around the Gemstones, which offers hope under the shadow of the megachurch for skating enthusiasts.
Judy Gemstone
This season proved challenging for Judy, as complications arose when Lori began dating Eli, causing Judy to become protective and act like a bulldog. To add to her troubles, B.J., her husband (Tim Baltz), was injured in a pole-dancing mishap and required the help of Dr. Watson, who not only served as his rehabilitator but also demonstrated territorial tendencies. However, when Judy witnessed the happiness Dr. Watson brought to B.J., she embraced the Capuchin monkey into their family. Although it’s uncertain how long this unique relationship will last without further drama, considering that Dr. Watson played a crucial role in saving the Gemstone children’s lives, Judy may need to tolerate his quirks. Fortunately, B.J. is now mobile again and can probably find another hobby—one with less risk—while he recovers.
Kelvin Gemstone
It’s accurate to conclude that Kelvin made a grand exit on the show, marked by joy and celebration. After a less-than-stellar appearance during the roundtable discussion, which almost cost him the Top Christ-Following Man title, the youngest Gemstone sibling took a bold step: he publicly declared his sexual orientation on TV, winning over both the judges and viewers. Having spent considerable time with his partner Keefe (Tony Cavalero) working on his old treehouse, he utilized it as the setting for their wedding. As expected, Eli officiated the emotional ceremony, marrying off his last child. The festivities included a spectacular fireworks display that illuminated the night sky. With the family Bible now securely back in its rightful place, Kelvin can now rest without being haunted by the memories of Cobb’s robbery and find tranquility in Keefe’s embrace.
Eli Gemstone
This season’s storyline primarily revolved around Eli’s scandalous romance with Lori, whose deep bond with Aimee-Leigh eventually led her to reconnect with the Gemstones when her marital issues arose. Despite their kids being too young to understand or accept their relationship, the lake house shooting served as a wake-up call for everyone, helping Eli and Lori repair their broken relationship. Following Kelvin’s marriage, Eli returned to “Somewhere in Florida” to live a secluded life on his sailboat. However, Lori reappeared, seeking forgiveness for the turmoil they caused and offering to be Eli’s partner on this journey. It seems that Eli, as the Gemstone patriarch, will enjoy a peaceful life at sea—until his children inevitably stir up more trouble once more.
