Aussie Comedian Hughesy Almost Missed Mel B’s Celebrity wedding Invitation

Dave ‘Hughesy’ Hughes has nabbed an invite to one of the biggest weddings of the year. 

As a devoted fan and follower, I am thrilled to share that I will be gracing the occasion of Mel B from the Spice Girls’ upcoming nuptials within the forthcoming months, as I confided in news.com.au’s From the Newsroom podcast.

Hey there! As a lifestyle aficionado who recently crossed paths with a pop legend during the 2022 season of The Masked Singer, I must share an exciting tale. Believe it or not, the invitation almost slipped through my fingers due to my busy schedule on “I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here”. Can you imagine?

‘When I was in the jungle, it was a month with no contact with anyone,’ he shared.

Later on, at home from the reality show, the comedian found the invitation in his email, sent by Mel B’s wedding planner shortly after he went into the jungle.

He added: ‘I quickly emailed back, “yes … we want to go to the wedding!”‘

As it turns out, the timing of my upcoming wedding couldn’t be more perfect, as it happens to align with a previously scheduled trip to London in July for a series of performances.

He explained to the podcast hosts that he had already arranged a vacation and his performance dates happen right before and after the wedding, making the wedding date ideal for him.

Mel B, famous for her work on the Spice Girls, is planning to marry hairstylist Rory McPhee in St. Paul’s Cathedral. She’s rumored to be inviting many high-profile celebrities to celebrate with them during the wedding events.

As an over-the-moon, diehard fan, I’m buzzing with excitement because the one and only Spice Girl singer, now 48 years young, who popped the question to her beloved Rory, 35, back in November of 2022, has been dropping subtle hints that their big day is officially set!

In a conversation with The Sun, she clarified that since she possesses an MBE, she is eligible to get married at St. Paul’s. Given that they conduct a limited number of weddings annually, they are currently on the waiting list for their special day.

Since we’ve had discussions about this, given my past experiences – I was married twice before. I’ve always been transparent and sincere in my conversations. I hold marriage in high regard, being quite traditional. I shared details of how I endured a decade of abusive relationships.

In a recent conversation, I expressed my belief that, given their age, it might be less conventional for the Spice Girls – Emma Bunton, Victoria Beckham, Mel C, and Geri Halliwell – to serve as my bridesmaids on my special day. After all, every wedding should reflect the unique dynamics of its participants, and I want mine to resonate with a modern, youthful charm.

Since the year 2019, Mel and Rory have been in a romantic relationship, and, in the year 2021, Rory popped the question using an engagement ring worth approximately AUD $206,646 (or £100,000).

One confidant revealed to The Sun that Mel responded affirmatively right away, and furthermore shared: “However, it was extremely emotional due to all the hardships she’s faced, making this a significant and powerful milestone for her.

Mel mentioned earlier that since they possess an MBE, they could potentially get married at the same location as where Princess Diana wed Prince Charles. They are yet to receive a response from St. Paul’s Cathedral in London regarding this matter.

‘We have put all our forms in and we are just waiting on them to give us the day.’

At St. Paul’s Cathedral, the chapel is only accessible to individuals who hold an MBE (Member of the British Empire) or OBE (Officer of the British Empire). In 2022, Mel was honored with an MBE for her outstanding contributions to charitable organizations and women in need.

Additionally, Mel has thrilled fans by disclosing that a specific Spice Girl will be the one creating her wedding gown.

As soon as I have the date set, I’ll head out for wedding dress shopping. Victoria Beckham has plans to design a dress for me.”
