MobLand S1E6: What Happens to Brendan & Seraphina? Cliffhanger Alert!

Warning: Spoilers ahead for episode 6 of MobLand

In episode 6 of “MobLand,” the repercussions of the shocking assassination of Vron Stevenson unfolded, revealing that a conflict with the volatile and desperate Richie Stevenson could prove incredibly perilous. Up until now in this gripping crime saga, the Harrigans had been taking the offensive, essentially instigating a war against their long-standing adversaries in London’s criminal underworld. Previously, episode 5 of “MobLand” had left the Harrigans caught off guard during Tommy Stevenson’s funeral and wake, but they managed to come out unscathed as Richie essentially declared a ceasefire with everyone except Eddie Harrigan.

Following the incident, Richie’s wife Vron suffered an explosion while starting her car, tragically intensifying Richie’s sorrow and shattering any hopes for tranquility. Meanwhile, Kevin Harrigan and Harry Da Souza had been working tirelessly over the past three episodes to establish a lasting peace after Eddie (and Maeve) made a reckless move to kill Tommy Stevenson. However, with a single phone call from Maeve, all their efforts were undone. The closing moments of episode 6 on MobLand highlighted the potential gravity of that action, as two Harrigans now found themselves in Richie’s line of fire.

What Happened To Brendan And Seraphina

Episode 6 Ends On A Cliffhanger For Them

In the initial episodes of “MobLand,” scenes involving Brendan and Seraphina Harrigan unfolded with Brendan proposing a seemingly profitable venture to his financially thriving half-sister. This scheme was said to benefit them personally and serve as a means for the Harrigans to clean their ill-gotten gains. By episode 6, Brendan’s plan became clear: he had a contact offering Mozambiquan rubies at a price significantly below market value. To win over the entire Harrigan family, Seraphina agreed to discuss the deal with his contact, exploring the potential of this transaction.

MobLand – Remaining Episode Schedule

8 “Helter Skelter” Sunday, May 18th
9 “Beggars Banquet” Sunday, May 25th

It seems the deal is legit, until unexpectedly a group of armed individuals launch an attack on the location where the deal is transpiring. These assailants mercilessly kill everyone present, including Seraphina’s professional security detail. Both Brendan and Seraphina find themselves cornered by these attackers. The gunmen’s identity remains unknown, as does the outcome for Brendan and Seraphina. However, given that Richie might be involved in the attack, it’s plausible to presume they were captured rather than killed swiftly or secretly.

Why Maeve Called Richie

She Describes It As Her Queen’s Gambit

When the Harrigans understand that Brendan and Seraphina are distant from the secure manor at the Cotswolds, Maeve spots a chance she nearly shares with Conrad. After labeling both Brendan and Seraphina as “vulnerable points” she wouldn’t mind discarding, she informs her cherished grandson (and sometimes assistant) Eddie about her imminent plan.

She directly phones Richie Stevenson in the presence of Eddie, and shares the location where he can find Seraphina and Brendan in Antwerp, adding that he should refrain from hurting Brendan (but can act freely regarding Seraphina).

Richie swiftly makes a phone call, essentially delegating the task of kidnapping Brendan and Seraphina to Mexican cartels due to their extensive global presence, allowing them to reach the Harrigans more quickly than he could manage alone. It’s worth noting that Jaime Lopez, believed to be Richie’s main supplier and a man rumored to control half the world’s fentanyl supply, harbors deep resentment towards Conrad Harrigan, stemming from an incident three decades ago that offended his late father. Maeve characterizes her decision as a “strategic gamble”, even dubbing it the “Queen’s Gambit”, referencing a well-known chess move.

Who Actually Made The Call To Kill Vron Stevenson

Episode 6 Featured A Twist In The Plot

According to the sequence of events in episode 5 (Vron being insulted by Maeve, Maeve contacting Paul, Vron getting blown up), it appeared that Maeve was responsible for initiating the call that led to Richie’s wife’s death. However, after assembling at the manor, Conrad asserted that he, not Maeve, had made the ultimate decision to eliminate Vron. He referred to this action as “plan B,” and explained how he had arranged for Paul to set up the bomb a week prior while Vron was out shopping.

Although Maeve appears totally taken aback when Conrad admits he orchestrated the call to take out Vron, the specifics he shares with the family about the timing and method of Paul setting up the bomb were later contradicted by Paul. This suggests that Conrad may have been aware of the plan, but did not actively participate in its planning and execution. It appears increasingly likely that Maeve was the one who impulsively decided to eliminate Vron, while Conrad is trying to uphold the facade that he remains in charge.

Why Brendan Wanted To Get The Ruby Deal Done So Badly

The Eldest Harrigan Wants Back Into The Family’s Good Graces

Brendan, who is Maeve and Conrad’s eldest son, has been shunned by his family due to his questionable business practices that have resulted in significant financial losses for the Harrigans. Labeled as the ‘weakest link’, he is often seen as less intelligent and a coward. Despite this, Brendan saw an opportunity in the ruby deal to rebuild relationships and generate quick profits when the family might soon require it.

In essence, Seraphina joined forces with Brendan primarily to demonstrate her value within the organization, just like she did. Though her father remains fond of her, Maeve harbors intense dislike towards Seraphina, a sentiment understandable given that she serves as a constant reminder of Conrad’s numerous extramarital affairs. Closing the ruby deal would serve to underscore her importance within the family, earning the respect of everyone but her father, for they would acknowledge her shrewdness and intellect.

What Maeve’s Actual Endgame Is

Her Wildcard Ways May Have A Legitimate Purpose

In the world of MobLand, every action taken by Maeve – from orchestrating Tommy Stevenson’s demise to disclosing her son and Seraphina’s location to their bitter foe, appears to be a calculated step towards a larger objective. To an outside observer, it may seem that she is eager for conflict with the Stevensons. However, beneath this surface tension, each manipulation seems to be bringing them closer to a war they desire. Interestingly, Maeve prioritizes the Harrigans being feared and respected over financial gain, demonstrating the classic mindset of an old-school gangster.

Despite her actions that may have led to Archie’s murder and the subsequent tip about his body location, these actions wouldn’t provoke a war with the Stevensons. Instead, they would place Maeve under scrutiny by federal agents and police, potentially leading to her arrest, as well as causing personal turmoil for her (having been involved in the death of her friend). It appears now that Maeve’s ultimate goal in MobLand is to overthrow Conrad from his position as head of the Harrigan crime enterprise, which could be a long-planned retaliation against him for disrespecting her during their marriage.
