Line of Duty’s Martin Compston responds to season 7 rumours

Martin Compston, who stars in Line of Duty, has spoken up about the speculation surrounding a seventh season. He revealed that fresh episodes are not expected to arrive anytime soon.

For six seasons from 2012 to 2021, the BBC’s police drama was highly praised. Lately, there’s been a lot of talk about a new part coming up.

During a chat with The Sun, actor Compston (Steve Arnott’s role) expressed hope for the show’s comeback at some point, acknowledging that the process might be delayed due to busy schedules of the other cast members.

The actor mentioned that they often discuss various scenarios and timelines. It seems everyone has several things happening currently, which means any potential plans might be quite far in the future, regrettably.

It’s heartening to see that people continue to inquire about the show, as it indicates enduring interest. I’m genuinely pleased by this enthusiasm, and I hope we can collaborate on another project someday. Interestingly, we often get together even now.

Prior to Christmas, I had a meeting with Jed Mercurio (the show’s creator), Adrian Dunbar, and Vicky McClure in London. We went out for dinner together so they could update me on their current projects.” The actor, who portrayed Steve throughout all six seasons, shared this.

As a fan, it’s simply astonishing! The exhilaration I get as an actor when I sense the entire nation hanging on to my every move, eagerly anticipating the next twist, is indescribable. And to know that only a select few are privy to the secret of who will make it through and what lies ahead – it’s a unique, thrilling sensation.

He emphasized that they prioritize quality, meaning any return visit wouldn’t be arbitrary. Instead, it would be motivated by a genuine interest, not simply a request for more. Specifically, if they come back, it will be because they believe there’s an engaging narrative to share.

Previously, Compston expressed his thoughts on the potential comeback of the series, indicating that he has complete faith in Mercurio to create a meaningful narrative. He stated, “If he feels it’s not suitable for a return, then we won’t have one.

Should he choose to eliminate any of us from the show, it would be heartbreaking. However, if it’s what’s best for the program, we’d have no choice but to comply. If that’s his decision, then so be it. At this point, we aren’t intending to make such a move, but knowing that it’s an option gives us a sense of comfort and security.

Line of Duty streams on BBC iPlayer.
