Hugh Jackman’s sheep mystery movie gets disappointing update
The forthcoming movie titled “Three Bags Full: A Sheep Detective Story“, featuring Hugh Jackman, has unfortunately been met with an underwhelming piece of news recently.
The movie, based on Leonie Swann’s 2005 novel, tells the story of a flock of sheep who apply their love for solving murder mysteries to uncover the mysterious circumstances surrounding their shepherd’s death, portrayed by Jackman.
Initially planned for a release on February 20, 2026, the film “Three Bags Full” boasts a talented cast featuring Emma Thompson, Molly Gordon, and Nicholas Galitzine. However, the studio Amazon MGM Studios has pushed back the release date to November 13, 2026.

The screenplay for “Three Bags Full” was crafted by Craig Mazin (known for “Chernobyl” and “The Last of Us”) and directed by Kyle Balda (responsible for “Despicable Me 3” and “Minions: The Rise of Gru”). This upcoming production is reported to combine live-action and animation, featuring a stellar supporting cast that includes Bryan Cranston, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, and Patrick Stewart.
According to the tagline (from Deadline), the movie titled “Three Bags Full” started filming last year, tells the story of George Hardy (played by Jackman), a man who cherishes his flock and farms them primarily for their wool.
Every evening, he reads a murder mystery out loud, feigning that his flock comprehends, unaware that not only do they grasp the story but they engage in lengthy discussions afterward, debating who committed the crime.
As a keen admirer, I find myself captivated by the plot where George meets an untimely and mysterious end. Instantly, the flock senses it wasn’t just an accidental demise; they’re convinced it was a murder. They believe they hold all the pieces to crack this enigma wide open. In contrast, our local officer Tim Derry (Nicholas Braun) hasn’t tackled anything more than minor infractions up until now – a serious crime remains an uncharted territory for him.
As I ponder over this predicament, it strikes me that I must find a solution on my own, bravely venturing beyond the familiarity of my meadow for the very first time. This journey will undoubtedly unveil the complexities of the human world, far more intricate than the simplified narratives in my books.
Fans must endure a bit more waiting for “Three Bags Full,” but Jackman recently expressed some reservations about his role in “Deadpool” and “Wolverine.” He jokingly pointed out that, given his past dance training, he should have been featured in the opening scene of these films.
He’s cool with not being in every scene of the film, but since Ryan [Reynolds] wrote the script, it’s clear that the opening sequence – a dance routine set to an NSYNC tune – is one he won’t be part of, as he humorously pointed out.
Three Bags Full: A Sheep Detective Movie is scheduled to be released on 13 November 2026.
