Rust’s Dark Secret REVEALED! You Won’t Believe Why They Finished It!
Following the criminal charges against Alec Baldwin and armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed over the Rust shooting incident, the film has now been made available to the public. Initially conceived as a low-budget Western with a budget under $10 million, this production sadly experienced a fatal accident that resulted in the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, when Baldwin’s prop gun was found to contain live ammunition. Three years after the unfortunate event, the movie has officially been released on May 2, contrary to initial assumptions that it might never be completed.
In a chat with Grant Hermanns from ScreenRant, Josh Hopkins (Josh Hopkins playing Wood Helm) shared the reasons behind their return to the project. The tragic demise of Haylna Hutchins left everyone deeply affected, but the proceeds will be channeled towards her family. Hopkins mentioned that her husband requested him to complete this task, which was his main motivation for returning. He feels that it would provide viewers a chance to appreciate “the stunning artistry she possessed“. You can find his complete statement below:
I’m deeply grateful for your understanding in addressing the elephant in the room tactfully. The profits from this movie won’t be given to the original producers, but instead to Halyna’s husband, son, parents, and sister. They asked us to return and complete this project because they wanted the world to witness Halyna’s artistry and her remarkable work. I can confidently say that I, and probably others, wouldn’t have returned if not for their approval. Halyna’s husband requested me to finish this movie. The tragedy is well-known, but now we can showcase what she was creating, and how truly talented she was. It’s crucial that people understand nobody would have returned to work on this without the support of her family.
What Rust’s Release Means For The Hutchins Family
All Profits Will Go To Them
In simpler terms, it might seem logical to halt the film’s production entirely considering its connection to an innocent woman’s death. Director Joel Souza, who was also injured during the incident, could have decided to leave the project. Given the numerous cast and crew members facing criminal charges, ending production would have been a reasonable choice. However, Hopkins’ explanation offers a clearer reason for their decision to resume work on the movie.
Hutchins’ last project holds immense importance for us, serving as his final work before he left the industry. Known for his contributions on over a dozen films, Hutchins has already etched a lasting impact in our field, prompting reforms such as the prohibition of prop guns on numerous sets. The second motivation behind our cast’s return is that the movie’s profits will be directed towards Hutchins’ family, rather than the producers. This selfless move might not have been necessary, but it certainly pays tribute to his memory. In progress…
