What Is ‘Duster’ About?
In the Southwest U.S. during 1972, the captivating series “Duster” unfolds, focusing on the thrilling adventures of Nina (Rachel Hilson), America’s first Black female FBI agent. To bring down a dangerous crime syndicate, she enlists the assistance of an audacious getaway driver (Josh Holloway) who offers his unparalleled skills. Developed by the legendary J.J. Abrams and LaToya Morgan, this gripping show marks a reunion for Abrams and Holloway, having previously worked together on the hit television show “Lost” from 2004 to 2010.
The crime-centered drama received immediate approval for a series straight from Max back in April 2020. Sarah Aubrey, Head of Original Content at Max, described it as an electrifying crime adventure with fast-paced storytelling, engaging characters, and thrilling car chases to spare. In a statement before filming began in April 2023, the show’s creator Morgan expressed her enthusiasm for the project.
Duster combines everything I love: thrilling narratives, richly developed characters, and an abundance of emotional depth. It’s a project close to my heart, and I’m incredibly thankful to the team at Warner Bros. and HBO Max for their faith in this series. Working alongside J.J. Abrams has been nothing short of fantastic as we create this amazing universe.
Who Is in the Cast of ‘Duster’?
In the show “Duster”, both known and new characters will be present. Notably, television veteran Josh Holloway takes on a co-leading role as Jim, the getaway driver, alongside Rachel Hilson. Holloway gained initial recognition for his portrayal of James “Sawyer” Ford in the hit series “Lost”, where he played the popular island villain for six seasons. Following this success, Holloway has continued to shine on television, gracing both “Colony” and “Yellowstone” before reteaming with J.J. Abrams for “Duster”.
Hilson garnered fame for her portrayals as Beth Clarke in “This Is Us” and Mia Brooks in “Love, Victor.” This gifted actress also left lasting impressions in “American Horror Story: Double Feature” and “Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty.” In this new crime series, she’ll be accompanied by seasoned actor Keith David who plays Ezra, the crime lord Nina aims to bring down. With a career spanning over 300 roles in film, television, and theater, David is best known for his recent voice work as Masego in Disney’s “Mufasa: The Lion King.
Completing the lineup for the show Duster, we have Greg Grunberg (known from shows like Alias and Heroes) as Abbott, Camille Guaty (recognized from series such as Prison Break and Scorpion) as Izzy, Sydney Elisabeth (familiar face from shows including The Last O.G.) as Genesis. Additionally, Corbin Bernsen (best known for his roles in Psych and City on a Hill) will make recurring appearances as Wade Ellis, Jim’s father. Holloway expressed great joy at the opportunity to work with Abrams once more, 15 years after the series finale of Lost aired, telling Variety in an interview that he quickly agreed when the filmmaker approached him for a role in this new crime series.
Can’t you believe it? He phoned to see if I could spare a moment, and of course, I said yes – every time for anything. I was simply thrilled to chat with him.
Duster will make its rip-roaring premiere on Max on May 15, 2025.
