Shadow Force
Kerry Washington and Omar Sy have teamed up as a pair of rogue agents in the series titled “Shadow Force“. In this role, they depict Kyrah and Isaac, a husband and wife duo who abandon their careers in international spying to focus on raising their son. This choice makes them outlaws in the eyes of the US government.
The realization of “Shadow Force” on the silver screen has been a much-anticipated event. Screenwriter Leon Chills initially wrote the script as early as 2018, then presented it to various production companies and creative minds until it found its home with Lionsgate under the direction of Joe Carnahan.
In an interview, Liam Crowley from ScreenRant chatted with Washington and Sy about their experiences while working on “Shadow Force.” They shared insights on what drew them to the action-adventure project and how it pushed them as performers.
Omar Sy Replaced Sterling K. Brown As Shadow Force’s Male Lead
“[Omar] felt like the missing puzzle piece…”
Among the creative individuals passing by was Sterling K. Brown, who is known for his Academy Award nominations. Together with Kerry Washington and Steven Love’s production companies, he had co-acquired the script for “Shadow Force.” Initially intending to star in the project, Brown decided to step down from on-screen commitments. Instead, French actor Omar Sy took on the role of Isaac.
Sy explained that he incorporated elements from Brown’s interpretation, but also added some unique touches to create his own version of Isaac. He further stated, “To enrich the universality of our character and narrative, I infused a touch of Frenchness in the portrayal.
Washington privately reached out to Sy through an Instagram message, inviting him to join the Shadow Force team.
Washington commented, “When Omar agreed, it felt like we were finally on track with the right movie.” He continued, “This tale, which strikes a chord with so many of us today due to our multi-national families, made the film even broader and more appealing globally. It added an element of fun as well.
Shadow Force Takes To The Seas For Insane Boating Stunt
“It makes me think about our training because what a journey!”
In both land and sea, those universal aspects are present. Toward the end of the movie, Kyrah and Isaac engage in a thrilling pursuit by a speedboat, as they defend themselves against their adversaries.
For several days, I found myself immersed in the thrilling world of stunts. While my doubles were undeniably crucial in helping us navigate through these daring feats safely, it was me who took the majority of the plunge – or rather, the paddle. The true joy lies not only in the adrenaline rush but also in the camaraderie we shared as we navigated the unpredictable rivers of Colombia, those hidden waterways that left us both exhilarated and awestruck. To master the boat, I even had to enroll in a crash course on driving and parking it – an adventure within an adventure!
As Washington struggled with parking, Sy honed his skills in parkour. Eventually, the rough journey found Isaac hanging off the side of a speedboat, gripping the port side with one hand while brandishing a gun at his opponents with the other.
Sy highlighted how thrilling that part was for him, as it offered numerous opportunities for action and stunts. He and his team were determined to participate in everything they could safely execute. So, he ended up balancing on a board, which was a bit nerve-wracking, but exciting at the same time. In hindsight, it seemed incredibly cool – hanging off one hand while firing with the other. That was the only way he could pull it off, and he’s glad he took on the challenge. In summary, it was an enjoyable and exhilarating experience for him.
Washington remarked, “It brings our training to mind since this experience is quite a ride.” He recalled, “Omar and I initially focused on weapons training, merely firing a gun on land. But imagine shooting a gun while you’re hanging off a boat, and the boat is speeding at 60 miles per hour!
