Star Trek Actors Unite In New Crime Thriller Series ‘The Yank’

Well-known actors from three different Star Trek shows are teaming up for a special event, but you won’t be able to watch it on Paramount+. After a decade of Star Trek shows on the streaming service, there are currently no new series being made or planned. Many believe Star Trek will take a break before returning, possibly through new films or TV shows.

There are still three seasons of Star Trek shows coming to Paramount+. Season 4 of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is anticipated in summer 2026, followed by its fifth and final season in 2027. The second and final season of Star Trek: Starfleet Academy is also planned for release on Paramount+ in 2027. As these shows continue, many of the actors from Star Trek have moved on to other work.

Cillian O’Sullivan announced on Instagram that Ireland’s national broadcaster, RTÉ, has greenlit a new six-episode crime thriller titled The Yank. The series will star Kate Mulgrew, known from Star Trek: Voyager, alongside Colm Meaney (Star Trek: Deep Space Nine) and Cillian O’Sullivan (Star Trek: Strange New Worlds). Kate Mulgrew is best known for her iconic role as Captain Kathryn Janeway in Star Trek: Voyager, a character she later played again in Star Trek: Nemesis. She revisited the Star Trek universe with Star Trek: Prodigy, voicing both Hologram Janeway and Admiral Janeway. Beyond Star Trek, Mulgrew has continued to act in television, film, and on stage, appearing in shows like Mr. Mercedes and The Man Who Fell to Earth, and notably in Orange Is The New Black, for which she received an Emmy nomination for Best Supporting Actress.

Kate Mulgrew plays NYPD detective Nora Savage in The Yank. Seeking a change of pace, Savage returns to her family home in Connemara, Ireland, only to find herself investigating the murder of a climate activist. The Yank is the first television drama written by Eithne Verling, who created the character of Nora Savage with Kate Mulgrew in mind. Verling met Mulgrew while she was on vacation in Galway, Ireland, and was inspired to write the role for her.

Colm Meaney is a highly respected Irish actor best known for playing Chief Miles O’Brien in both Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. He’s also had a successful career in film and television, appearing in movies like Con Air and Layer Cake, and TV shows including Stargate: Atlantis, Gangs of London, and Hell on Wheels—where he worked with Anson Mount, who later starred in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.

Cillian O’Sullivan has joined the cast of The Yank and is now also known for his work on Star Trek. He played Dr. Roger Korby in season 3 of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds and will likely return for season 4. O’Sullivan is also recognizable from roles in Netflix shows like In From The Cold, Bull, Vikings, and season 1 of Daredevil: Born Again.

Fans can look forward to The Yank, a new series bringing together three well-known actors from Star Trek in a story set not in space, but in Ireland. The beautiful landscape of Connemara plays a key role, deeply rooted in Irish history and culture. Kate Mulgrew stars as a New York City detective who finds herself completely out of her element, navigating a world of different laws and intense loyalties on the western coast of Ireland.

It’s currently unknown how fans in the US will be able to watch The Yank, but with such a talented cast from Star Trek, it will likely be available to stream eventually. Star Trek fans will be excited to see Kate Mulgrew, Colm Meaney, and Cillian O’Sullivan together on screen, set against the beautiful scenery of western Ireland.
