Mark Harmon’s Confession in NCIS: Origins Betrays Gibbs’ Tragic Love Story!
The final episode of the first season for the series titled “NCIS: Origins” was filled with surprising moments, yet none were more startling than Mark Harmon’s confession at the very end. The finale of NCIS: Origins marked the culmination of numerous character-driven plots and intense narratives that had been developing for months. It seemed poised to serve as a fitting conclusion to the first spinoff prequel of the NCIS franchise, but instead, it concluded on an unexpected note.
In the new spin-off series, NCIS: Origins, many characters are portrayed by fresh faces, including those who were present in the original NCIS. The only character exception is Mark Harmon’s Gibbs, who plays an older version of his character and narrates throughout every episode. Among all his narrations, the most surprising ones can be found in the premiere, where they establish the series premise, and in the finale, where a startling confession was revealed.
Old Gibbs Reveals That He Has Always Loved Lala In NCIS: Origins Season 1 Finale
Gibbs’ Confession Was The Season’s Final Moment
Despite the heart-wrenching revelation at the end of NCIS: Origins season 1, episode 18 that Lala was involved in a severe car accident, there’s a pivotal moment right after. As the credits start rolling, Harmon’s Gibbs addresses the audience directly to confess, “I had always loved her. I still do.” This statement, though seemingly tender, hints at something unusual since Old Gibbs speaks of Lala in the past tense while admitting he never stopped loving her.
The admission by Gibbs follows a gradual, tender love story between him and Lala that started in the debut of NCIS: Origins. The finale of the first season was intended to conclude their relationship, but it didn’t. However, his confession gives substance to their professional bond. Moreover, this confession is significant because it means that both the beginning and end of NCIS: Origins season 1 subtly reference Lala.
Gibbs Carrying A Torch For Lala Throughout His NCIS Arc Cheapens It
NCIS Established That Shannon Was Gibbs’ Biggest Loss
In the TV series NCIS, Gibbs’ affection for Lala significantly alters Gibbs’ character development. For one instance, it shifts the perspective on Gibbs’ interactions with women. For a long time, Gibbs had been grappling with maintaining lasting romantic connections, as he found it hard to let down his guard and fully commit after the tragic loss of Shannon and Kelly. However, it has now been disclosed in NCIS: Origins that Lala was also a part of his past, which seems to undermine the intensity of his struggles within the main series.
The complication in Gibbs’ affection for Lala becomes more perplexing as he reportedly wrestled with romantic involvements and neglected his sorrow for a prolonged period, only to develop feelings for Lala less than a year after his loss. This sudden turn of events appears implausible and contradicts the well-established character Gibbs has portrayed over the years in the main series. Moreover, this twist seems disrespectful to Gibbs’ previous romantic connections, such as Jenny, Holly, and Jack, who were significant figures in his life. Given his history with these characters, it would be reasonable to assume that their presence might have triggered memories of Lala if the storyline of NCIS: Origins holds true.
Will Gibbs & Lala Ever Have A Proper Romance In NCIS: Origins?
It All Depends On How Season 2 Opens
It appears increasingly improbable that Lala and Gibbs will have a romantic relationship in NCIS: Origins, given Lala’s accident and Gibbs meeting Diane. If Lala survives the crash, she’ll likely face serious injuries that could permanently keep her away from NIS. Moreover, the fact that the accident occurred while she was heading to Gibbs’ house might fill him with guilt, making a romance between them seem unlikely.
If an event occurs, it would create an uncomfortable and awkward situation that might be best resolved by keeping the couple apart, even though they’ve accumulated significant tension. Yet, the evolution of Gibbs and Lala’s relationship is closely tied to how NCIS: Origins season 2 begins. If Lala lives, there could be a chance for resolution in their relationship. However, if she perishes, the brief encounters between Gibbs and Lala from season 1 might represent their final moments together.
