Dolly Parton Fights Tears While Remembering Late Husband Carl Dean: ‘I Loved Him Since I Was 18’

Overwhelmed by grief, I find myself grappling with the reality that my beloved partner, Carl Dean, has left me after our 60-year shared journey. The bond we forged remains unparalleled in my heart.

Carl died on March 3 at the age of 82.

Instead of getting emotional, I find it quite touching when the subject comes up, as Parton shared with Savannah Guthrie on Today.

We had been a pair for sixty years,” she said, struggling to hold back her tears. “I’ve cherished him ever since I was eighteen.

79-year-old Whitney Houston, who sang “I Will Always Love You,” expresses heartfelt gratitude for all the messages she’s received following her husband’s passing.

She gratefully expressed her feelings, mentioning that she’s received numerous cards, letters, and bouquets of flowers from various parts of the world. In a playful manner, she also commented, “It turns out I underestimated just how well-known Carl Dean is.

At the age of 18, I found myself deeply in love with Carl Dean. Over the past 60 years, our time together has been incredibly valuable and filled with meaning,” she shared on Instagram in March.

Parton dedicated her new song If You Hadn’t Been There to Dean.

In much the same way as timeless love tales continue, so does their narrative persist in my recollections and melodies. He remains the leading character in my personal chronicle.

A few weeks following Dean’s passing, Parton shared with Knox News, “I am finding ways to cope better than I expected. We were together for 60 years. Now, I will need to re-learn some aspects of our life together. However, I will keep him always near.

Besides disclosing details, she additionally provided understanding about the final phase of her secluded spouse’s life, implying he faced challenges before passing away.

Dolly expressed, “He endured much hardship.” She added, “It brings me comfort to know he found peace, yet his absence and my affection for him are not diminished.

She added, “It feels like there’s an empty space in my heart, yet we can fill it with wonderful memories, and he’ll remain close to me forever.

At the end of March, the legendary country musician expressed her feelings on Instagram about the tribute to her deceased partner during this week’s Opry 100: A Live Celebration event.

Throughout the performance, stars like Reba McEntire, Carrie Underwood, Lady A, along with approximately 50 choir members from the Opry, sang Dolly Parton‘s hit song “I Will Always Love You,” which was released in 1974.

McEntire, aged 69, conveyed from the stage that everyone present at the Opry and globally are extending their well-wishes and prayers to Dolly.

‘And you gotta know, we will always love you,’ she added.

On Instagram Stories, Dolly addressed her 7.5 million followers saying, “I’ve been shedding tears over the touching tribute of ‘I Will Always Love You’ during the 100th anniversary of the Grand Ole Opry show.

She expressed, “‘Seeing all those stunning individuals using their lovely voices to sing my song, as a heartfelt tribute to my spouse Carl… The feelings were indescribable.’

The renowned musician went on to say, ‘I’ve wept enough to cleanse much of my suffering, and I want to express my gratitude to each one of you wonderful individuals who played a part in making this healing process happen.’

She finished the note, ‘I also will always love you,’ and signed off, ‘Dolly.’

In the year 1964, a chance encounter took place between Parton and Carl at a laundromat named Wishy Washy, located in Nashville. They tied the knot two years after this initial meeting.

The upcoming Broadway-style musical based on Dolly’s life, titled “Dolly: A New Musical,” will start its previews on July 18, running only from August 8 to August 17, at Belmont University’s Fisher Center for Performing Arts in Nashville.

Apart from directing the show, which is under the guidance of Tony Award-winning director Bartlett Sher, Parton has also collaborated on the script with two-time Emmy Award winner Maria S. Schlatter. Moreover, she composed numerous original songs for the production and ensured that all your favorite tunes are included as well.

2022 saw me honored with induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, a moment that added another milestone to my career. Back in 1999, I was welcomed into the Country Music Hall of Fame, an accolade that reflected the deep roots of my music in this genre. And as far back as 1969, I became a part of the Grand Ole Opry, a significant milestone for any country artist, marking my acceptance among the greats of the industry.
