Although “A Minecraft Movie” received a mixed response overall, Malgosha’s antagonistic role was one of the aspects that critics often agreed was well-executed within the storyline.

Certainly, the Ender Dragon would have made a more formidable antagonist in this film compared to Malgosha. However, the movie faced issues with inconsistent rhythm and forward momentum, which were largely due to Malgosha’s confusing objectives. This problem could have been avoided if the Ender Dragon had been used instead, as its purpose is straightforward: it protects the region that players must capture to win the game.

In the video game, they call this section “The End,” and that’s because it marks the end point for any new player’s adventure, serving as a final challenge for beginners. It seemed like a simple solution for the filmmakers to write a conclusion around this point in the Minecraft Movie. However, despite its commercial success, the movie has faced criticism due to its fragmented narrative structure, which some viewers found difficult to follow. Introducing a villain that audiences are already familiar with and whose intentions are straightforward could have helped make the film more appealing to a wider audience.

Given this, it appears that the filmmakers behind A Minecraft Movie opted for the Nether as their choice of villainous origin.

The Villain Can Still Make An Appearance In The Future
