Marvel’s Phase 6 Kicks Off with Groundbreaking New Setting for First Movie!
In a new twist for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Phase 6 will launch by introducing a location that has yet to be explored within its film history. (Or: The upcoming Phase 6 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe will commence with a movie set in a location never before used in MCU storytelling.)
The fifth phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe will conclude in the year 2025. During this time, two significant events will take place: “Thunderbolts” will hit theaters on May 2nd, and “Ironheart” will be available for streaming on Disney+ starting June 24th. These stories mark a pivotal point in the overarching narrative, as they delve deeper into the concept of other realities beyond Earth-616, which is the primary universe within the MCU.
In the upcoming Phase 6, we can anticipate a minimum of six fresh films and an abundance of Disney+ series, taking Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) enthusiasts to unexplored regions globally and ventures beyond, for several years to come.
Where Will Marvel Studios‘ First Phase 6 Movie Take Place?
In the course of the promotional journey for Marvel Studio’s inaugural Phase 6 production titled “The Fantastic Four: First Steps“, it has been verified that the movie will employ an unprecedented setting within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
As the premiere of The Fantastic Four approaches, director Matt Shakman highlighted that this film marks a unique milestone within the Marvel Cinematic Universe – it’s the first movie to unfold in a timeline where Earth only has the main four characters as its superheroes.
As a dedicated fan, I can’t help but notice that each new Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) film seems to be exploring realms beyond our familiar Earth-616. Just like how Deadpool and Wolverine traversed various universes, Doctor Strange delved into the Multiverse of Madness, and even The Marvels ended with a teaser in a world distinct from Earth-616. It’s truly exciting to see these expansions!
Furthermore, during CinemaCon 2025, the president of Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige, provided a sneak peek in a video about the setting for The Fantastic Four (for more details on Marvel’s CinemaCon presentation, see here).
In an interview while filming Avengers: Doomsday, Feige shared with fans that Marvel is meticulously constructing a lively, futuristic world reminiscent of the past, and they’re using IMAX cameras to ensure a stunning cinematic adventure in theaters.
The beginning of the movie serves as another clue that “The Fantastic Four” takes place in an alternate universe, given it sets the stage for a significant lineup of projects during Marvel Studios’ Phase 6 (which includes at least five new shows on Disney+). Here are the known locations for other Phase 6 releases:
Wonder Man – Los Angeles
In December, the upcoming Disney+ series titled “Wonder Man” introduces Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Simon Williams, an aspiring actor who later discovers extraordinary powers. Though specific details about his MCU backstory remain undisclosed, the show will draw on a traditional setting inspired by the character’s origins – the glitz and glamour of Hollywood.
As a die-hard film enthusiast, I can’t contain my excitement about the upcoming movie, Wonder Man. From the snippets we’ve seen, it seems this story will be set in none other than the city of dreams – Los Angeles, California. Here, our hero will navigate the challenges of stardom while learning the ropes of both Tinseltown and superheroism. I can hardly wait to see him cross paths with characters like Ben Kingsley’s Trevor Slattery, whose wisdom and experience should prove invaluable on this journey.
At this point in time, it’s uncertain if the series plans to venture beyond Southern California for future actions.
Eyes of Wakanda – Wakanda
The initial animated series on Disney+ for Phase 6 is titled “Eyes of Wakanda“, and it will journey fans through the historic past of the renowned African nation. In this series, we’ll delve into the exploits of previous generations of Wakanda’s mighty warriors, as they scour the world to recover lost vibranium artifacts that have been misappropriated by unscrupulous individuals.
According to its title, a significant portion of the upcoming Black Panther series will unfold within the territory of Wakanda, showcasing its elite warriors and masterful spies. Yet, expect various global locations to also come into play as the Wakandans persist in their quest for vibranium.
Avengers: Doomsday – Sanctum Sanctorum
At present, Marvel Studios is actively filming their upcoming team-up adventure, titled Avengers: Doomsday, which is scheduled for release on May 1, 2026. Aside from the confirmed presence of a large ensemble of heroes and villains, with Robert Downey Jr. portraying Doctor Doom as the main character, the exact in-universe locations where the story unfolds remain largely unspecified.
A whisper suggested that Doomsday might return to the Sanctum Sanctorum in New York City, which had a minor appearance in 2018’s Avengers: Infinity War. This place, you see, serves as the headquarters for Doctor Strange and the sorcerers of Kamar-Taj, and it has witnessed numerous battles throughout history.
Given that Doomsday seems certain to expand the Multiverse exponentially, it’s highly likely that The Sanctum will be just one of many significant locations featured in the movie. It would come as quite a shock if the storyline didn’t involve the main characters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) being transported to various other realms, where they strive to prevent Doom’s conquest.
Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 – Hell’s Kitchen
After wrapping up Daredevil: Born Again Season 1 in April 2025, it’s been confirmed that the show will continue with Season 2 in 2026. Starring Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock and Vincent D’Onofrio as the Kingpin, the series has effectively carried on the narrative initially introduced on Netflix.
The primary setting for the original Daredevil series was Hell’s Kitchen, but the comic series Born Again expands its scope to encompass all of New York City, not confined to a single borough. Various scenes in Times Square, Manhattan, have been depicted, and throughout the initial eight episodes, Matt Murdock and his associates have navigated across many parts of the city.
At this point, it seems that the series will not be relocating from New York City during Season 2, as suggested by the photos taken on the set of Daredevil: Born Again Season 2.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day – New York City
As a die-hard movie enthusiast, I couldn’t be more thrilled! Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures have officially announced that the upcoming Spider-Man installment will be titled “Spider-Man: A Fresh Start” at CinemaCon 2025. This tantalizing title offers a hint of what’s to come in the next chapter. In this sequel, we’ll find Peter Parker navigating life after the world has seemingly forgotten about his heroic deeds. Yet, our young web-slinger remains undeterred, continuing to swing into action on his own!
At present, the movie seems to be returning to Peter’s familiar territory, New York City, much like in two of his initial three films. Yet, there’s a possibility that this film might delve into other worlds too, given its alleged concurrent storyline with Avengers: Doomsday.
