Noted for her iconic 1995 hit “I Kissed a Girl,” singer Jill Sobule, passed away at the age of 66.
Sadly, Sobule lost his life in a devastating house fire that occurred in Minneapolis during the early hours of Thursday. This information has been reported by Variety.
The singer’s representative confirmed her death to the publication.
In 1995, Sobule, known for a track included in the beloved comedy Clueless, managed to reach the 20th spot on the US Billboard Modern Rock Tracks with her song “I Kissed A Girl”. This made it the highest-achieving LGBTQ-themed tune on the charts at that time.
Despite a gradual decline in her popularity, she’s been consistently producing and releasing fresh music in the past few years.
The artist was set to take the stage at Swallow Hill Music’s Tuft Theater in Denver, Colorado – where she was born – this coming Friday.
Since her first studio album “Things Here Are Different,” which was released in 1990, Sobule has produced a total of 10 studio albums and 2 live albums.
In addition, she made an appearance in a concert movie back in 2003, and in 2001, she put out a collection of her most popular songs, as well as numerous extended plays (EPs) throughout the 2000s and the early part of the 2010s.
After the success of her single “I Kissed A Girl,” Sobule made an appearance on the Clueless soundtrack by contributing the track titled “Supermodel.
The tune, unlike “I Kissed a Girl” that she penned herself, came out as the third track from the soundtrack of the movie starring Alicia Silverstone in August of 1995.
However, unlike the significant achievement she made that same year elsewhere, Supermodel did not make it onto the U.S. charts, but it did manage a modicum of chart success in Australia.
