Rachel Zegler Teams Up with MCU Star Marisa Tomei for Wild Comedy Drama Based on True Story
As a movie enthusiast, I’d put it this way: After gracing the screens as Snow White in the eponymous Disney film, I (Rachel Zegler) am now moving on to a new role – that of a daughter with a former punk rocker mom in the comedy-drama “She Gets It From Me,” sharing the screen with the incredible Marisa Tomei, who you might recognize as May Parker in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
As reported by Variety, Tomei is set to portray a free-spirited, unconventional mother in the upcoming movie “She Gets It From Me.” The story appears to be based on real events and centers around Nicky (Zegler), whose joyous engagement unexpectedly transforms into a quest to find her erratic ex-punk rocker birth mother Charlotte (Tomei). This journey serves as a chance for both the mother and daughter to reconnect.
The film will be helmed by Julia von Heinz, known for “And Tomorrow the Entire World” and the 2024 tragicomedy “Treasure.” Embankment, a prominent platform for nurturing storytelling talent, is initiating global pre-sales at Cannes.
“She Gets It From Me” will be produced in collaboration with Anna Werner of Seven Elephants and Jay Reiss (“The Oranges”), who also wrote the script. Director Julia von Heinz hinted that the film will humorously explore the consequences when two distinct worlds clash.
The film’s emotional depth mirrors aspects of our own lives, making it a hilarious and engaging experience. Jay’s script masterfully portrays family dynamics in their rawest form – absurdly real yet deeply meaningful. The blend of two disparate worlds results in humor that resonates profoundly due to its honesty.”
Or
“The movie’s emotional essence, echoing pieces of our lives, is both funny and absorbing cinema. Jay’s script beautifully encapsulates family interactions at their most genuine: they’re absurdly real yet significantly meaningful. The fusion of two distinct worlds creates humor that strikes a chord because it’s so truthful.
Among all candidates, Zegler seems particularly fitting to play one of the mother-daughter duo. Her ability to infuse rich depth into her characters is a significant factor that has Jen Dana, the producer of 3311, eager to work with her. Rachel consistently delivers a remarkable blend of depth and humanity in her roles, and we can’t wait for her to demonstrate her versatility and comedic talents further as an actress.
Rachel Zegler and Marisa Tomei Could Turn Out To Be the Perfect Duo
In a fascinating twist, the pairing of Rachel Zegler and Marisa Tomei could prove to be an extraordinary duo, much like Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis. Their combined talents promise to infuse their forthcoming roles in the comedy-drama with a unique charm that might leave spectators yearning for additional shared screen time. Following her global acclaim from her performance in West Side Story, Zegler has opted for a more diverse portfolio, choosing not to stick with another musical drama. Instead, she has graced genres spanning superhero tales, dystopian action, science fiction, animated musicals (voice role), and beyond.
Marisa Tomei has built an impressive career in the world of cinema, earning acclaim and securing her place within the industry following her Academy Award win for Best Supporting Actress in “My Cousin Vinny” (1992). With more than 50 films and numerous TV appearances under her belt, Tomei is best recognized for her role as Maggie Lauten on “A Different World.” As she takes on the role of an ex-punk rocker, Tomei demonstrates the versatility required to make this character just as memorable.
