Yorkshire Shepherdess Amanda Owen’s Dream Life Unravels: Turmoil on the Farm Revealed

Seven years back, she seemed to live the idyllic countryside lifestyle when she became popular for portraying that life on Channel 5’s Our Yorkshire Farm with her husband Clive, who was 69 at the time, and their nine children.

As the pandemic raged on, Amanda Owen’s farm-life show gained increasing popularity among viewers who found themselves enthralled by her daily struggles and triumphs. They tuned in to watch her tending lambs, braving the elements, juggling nine children, and maintaining an effortless elegance throughout it all.

In 1996, Owen encountered her husband who was previously divorced and had two kids. She, at 21, came to his farm as an apprentice shepherd. They fell for each other swiftly despite their age difference, eventually having nine children together. Their life on the farm, filled with charm, garnered a massive following.

As a devoted admirer, I echo Kate Humble’s sentiments, extolling Amanda for her genuine authenticity and portrayal of an unvarnished, hard-working woman who chose the farming lifestyle over a modeling career.

But for the Yorkshire Shepherdess, 50, the last few years have been anything but smooth.

Due to her marriage’s collapse, a five-year romance with a married web designer becoming public knowledge, and her adult kids leaving home for college, the television personality has experienced numerous challenging and painful events in her personal life.

As the second season of “Our Farm Next Door: Amanda, Clive, and Kids” debuts on screens, viewers have expressed worry and noted unusual behavior by Amanda in her recent interview on Lorraine, leading to speculations that all may not be well.

The show chronicles the journey of the ex-spouses, who parted ways in 2022 following 22 years of matrimony, as they work together with their offspring to transform an old, deserted farmhouse into a new residence by renovating it.

On the Lorraine show on Tuesday, Amanda shared insights into her current family situation as they navigate co-parenting, causing some viewers to express concern over her wellbeing.

Regarding her relationship with Clive, Amanda expressed that it’s all about progression. They have numerous sources of entertainment at their disposal. There’s room for growth and development between them.

‘There’s room to get away from each other, if we’re being absolutely brutally honest here.

It seems that if our relationship were as strong as a burning house, we wouldn’t be apart, right? However, the truth is, we have nine children together. Sometimes, it might appear to others that we’ve lost track of our day-to-day lives, but reality always comes with its challenges and changes.

She frankly mentioned, “Things aren’t always bright and full of bloom. That’s the truth, the truth is, we’re simply moving forward, figuring things out as they come.

In our family of nine, we must be flexible. It’s all about adjusting to fit the circumstances and finding what works best for us. Each person finds themselves in a distinct life situation, so we too must do the same.

‘Actually, I’m quite proud of how we’re going on. It’s about priorities, right?’

She ended her question with this: ‘What matters most is that everyone is progressing well, everyone is content, and everyone is managing fine. As for the rest, I guess it’s too bad.’

Some watching at home took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to share their concerns.

It appears that Amanda might not be feeling well; something seems off. #Lorraine

Others commented, “She seems unwell,” and “She appears unwell, but Lorraine seems to be unaware or choosing to ignore it.

It’s understandable for fans to be worried about Amanda, given how she has endeared herself to many with her genuine and practical approach towards various aspects of life, including farming and parenting.

She was raised in a conventional three-bedroom home, shared with her parents and an older sibling, right in the bustling market town of Huddersfield.

Standing tall at 6 feet 2 inches, I found myself following a similar career path as my model mom, yet my heart never resonated with the garments and cosmetics that were expected of me.

Then one day, she chanced upon a book about shepherding.

On the Channel 5 show, she expressed, “That scene – the images, the rugged terrain, the worn expressions of the men congregating in the mountains, and the dogs… It reminded me of what I’ve always envisioned for myself.

‘In fact I couldn’t believe that kind of life really existed,’ she added.

Instead of leading a cozy town existence, Owen chose to labor on various farms nationwide. However, it was when she rang the bell at Ravenseet Farm that she discovered her true vocation.

1) On the show, she confidently expressed that her fate led her to this place.

2) Clive resided on a vast 2,000-acre property, and within just 21 years of their age difference, they fell deeply in love, tying the knot in 2000.

The nine kids lend a hand on the farm when they aren’t attending university, school, or commuting (which takes an hour and a half each time).

In 2018, when speaking with the Daily Mail, Owen expressed that for a large family to function harmoniously, everyone must follow the same rules. He clarified this isn’t about child labor but rather working together as a team.

‘The snowflake generation, they can’t do anything,’ she previously told the Radio Times.

It seems they lack self-care skills and a strong work attitude; it appears we, as parents, may have missed teaching these essential life lessons.

If you constantly elevate your child above others, denying them opportunities for self-reliance and expecting to keep them entertained all the time, what might be the likely outcome?

I prefer not to wrap infants tightly, as I believe they should grow, thrive, and discover their unique identities. It’s their journey, and my role is merely to set them up for success.

On our farm, we aim to provide experiences that ready them for the larger world. The skills and knowledge they acquire here should serve them well.

As I stood there, five-year-old Clemmie’s arrival was imminent. With a sense of resolve and determination, I had made up my mind that I was ready to take on this monumental responsibility all by myself.

For our eighth child, considering the long journey to our maternity hospital located in Middlesbrough (approximately 69 miles away), I decided it was time for a change and opted for a home birth.

Since I confirmed the baby was in the correct position, as soon as I sensed the usual sensations, I made my way down to the living room and delivered the baby by the fire, with my dog acting as my support during the birth.

She mentioned: ‘Clive wasn’t eager to attend the birth; instead, he was napping upstairs. I went to rouse him, waking him with the news of the newborn.’

Back in June 2022, Amanda and Clive announced their decision to part ways, a tough choice they had to make. However, they also shared that they will still collaborate on the farm and share responsibilities as co-parents.

As a devoted fan, I’ve been saddened by the news about the separation of the show’s beloved couple. However, it seems that for quite some time prior to their official announcement, sources close to the Owens have shared that they were already living separately for months.

Since late 2021, there have been whispers about marital issues, yet the couple has consistently dismissed these rumors.

In April 2023, it became known that Amanda had been involved in a five-year relationship with the married businessman, Robert Davies, who is 71 years old. As a result of this affair, she was residing separately from her husband, Clive.

Nonetheless, the pair have come back to Ravenseet Farm in the Yorkshire Dales, now committed to a shared goal – managing the farm efficiently and raising their children, who range from nine to 23 years old.

In simpler terms, when Yasumi, aged 56, who is Robert’s wife, discovered his affair with Amanda, she criticized Amanda for leading a ‘fake life on TV’. Furthermore, she expressed that she had lost everything, including her marriage of 12 years, upon learning about their relationship.

The relationship between them sparked when she gained prominence on Our Yorkshire Farm, and then hired a web developer for managing her website.

The secret relationship between Robert and the Yorkshire Shepherdess was exposed when Yasumi discovered a note from her in Robert’s vehicle, as well as a hidden stash of Amanda’s belongings in his bedroom.

Tragically, the contents revealed the profound affection shared by the pair, and the message read: ‘Life is fleeting and joy is scarce. I am deeply in love with you.’

Investment banker Yasumi, originally from Tokyo, spotted a familiar signature in a signed copy of Owen’s latest book – it turned out to be that of Robert, who had been collaborating with Amanda on her personal website.

As an ardent admirer, I must confess that Mr. Yasumi had always struck me as genuinely benevolent… up until the year 2018, that is. It was around this time that a shift in his demeanor towards me became apparent, and it all seemed to stem from his new professional partnership with Amanda on her farming website.

Following her discovery of the note, Yasumi began searching for additional hints. She later informed The Sun that she subsequently uncovered some of Owen’s jewelry concealed within a box in their room, such as a necklace she had previously worn on television with the engraving: ‘Together forever.’

In fact, Amanda disclosed last September that their relationship had come to an end and they weren’t exchanging words anymore.

During an interview with TopMob, she clarified her stance and asserted: “I wasn’t intentionally seeking another romance. Rob [Davies] was a long-time acquaintance of both Clive and myself.

He handled the creation of our farm’s website and the digital part of our business operations, taking care of aspects that required expertise beyond ours.

From the start, he proposed engaging in dialogue instead of conflict, and Clive was aware of this; in fact, he even hinted that Rob and I might make a compatible pair.

About a few years back, Clive was involved with another person and was open about their relationship. This information wasn’t hidden; people in the vicinity were aware, including the children.

Simultaneously, Clive confessed, ‘It’s important for folks to understand that the reason for our separation wasn’t any external factor – it was the persistent arguments. My temper drove Amanda away.’

Reflecting on the situation now, I realize that Amanda was yearning for a confidant, someone reliable to share her thoughts with, and unfortunately, I wasn’t in a position to fulfill that role for her then.

Over a significant period of time, Rob had been a reliable friend to us. Our relationship with him extended far back into our past. It so happened that when we parted ways, he formed a connection with someone else. Since I was already aware of this situation beforehand, neither surprise nor dismay struck me. Moreover, it never crossed my mind as an affair because I understood the circumstances from the outset.

He mentioned: “I felt envy towards her prosperity, specifically that she earned more by discussing sheep than I ever would from actually farming them.

Reflecting on the past, I confess I was a challenging individual to interact with, grappling with feelings of jealousy that often clouded my judgment. It’s an uncomfortable truth to acknowledge, but my actions towards Amanda were unacceptable and something I’m not proud of. In retrospect, I believe my own struggle with depression significantly influenced my behavior at the time.

In an upset state, I found myself consuming a considerable amount of whiskey as a means to alleviate my frustrations. This strategy, however, often resulted in heated disagreements, and as my behavior became increasingly erratic, it proved to be more than Amanda could handle.

Now single and paving her own path, the Yorkshire shepherdess is ploughing on and making it work.

This month, she disclosed that she had stepped into a new role, joining forces with her children Amanda, Miles, and Edith, to judge at the Harrogate Dog Show earlier on.

Regardless of the challenges they faced over the past few years, Amanda joined forces with Clive once more for the latest season of their program.

Meanwhile, the couple’s offspring are gradually venturing into new phases as they embark on their university journey and the following stages of life.

In November 2022, Raven, the oldest child of Amanda and Clive, successfully completed their degree in Biomedical Science at York St. John University.

She is now currently working as an Assistant Scientist at DEFRA.

In an interview with The Sunday Times in November, Amanda described her and Clive’s future as they put it: “We’re just moving forward. We have our disagreements and squabbles. There’s no lovey-dovey stuff. But we get along well. And that’s a good thing.

Pondering over our mutual aspirations, I exclaim, “We stand united, bonded by a common purpose. This crusade we embark on is to safeguard our cherished farmland and ensure a prosperous future for our precious offspring.

However, those anticipating a possible reunion between Amanda and Clive, who first crossed paths when Amanda was only 21, are likely to experience disappointment.

Or simply:
Those hoping for Amanda and Clive’s reunion may find themselves disappointed as they met when Amanda was 21.

Or in a more conversational tone:
Fans dreaming of Amanda and Clive getting back together should probably let go, given that they first crossed paths when Amanda was just 21.

She remarked: “If you’ve experienced a split, the cause of the separation is often because things weren’t working out between you. Is it something anyone desires?
