Doctor Who Season 15 Reveals Shocking Twist: Multiple Midnight Monsters Are Terrorizing the Doctor!
Warning: This article includes MAJOR SPOILERS for Doctor Who season 15, episode 3, “The Well”!
Instead of leaving it open to interpretation, a subtle element in “Doctor Who” season 15, episode 3 titled “The Well,” covertly verifies the existence of more than one Midnight Monster. Unlike the anticipated encounter with the Daleks or Cybermen for Ncuti Gatwa’s Fifteenth Doctor and Varda Sethu’s Belinda Chandra as suggested by RTD (via Digital Spy), season 15 of “Doctor Who” reintroduces one of its most frightening standalone antagonists. The events of episode 3, “The Well,” can be seen as a continuation of the David Tennant episode “Midnight.” In this installment, the Doctor once again confronts the faceless entity on the planet Midnight.
In the mystery of the Midnight Monster from Doctor Who, “The Well” offered a tiny bit of insight, broadening our comprehension slightly about the creature. The unexpected finale sparked discussions among viewers that multiple of these creatures might exist. Fortunately, a subtle detail at the end of season 15, episode 3 provides evidence supporting this theory.
The End Of “The Well” Seems To Confirm At Least Two Midnight Monsters Exist
The Lift Screen Reveals A Midnight Monster Is On The Lift
As a movie buff, I can’t help but notice an intriguing detail from that scene in Doctor Who. When Aliss and the two troopers took off ahead of the rest, the lift screen showed four people inside, although only three were actually there. This was before the encounter with Belinda and the Midnight Monster. While it might have been a simple editing oversight, it feels more plausible that this detail is intentionally hinting at one of the Midnight Monsters having tagged along in the lift with Aliss and the troopers. If so, we’ve got at least two of these creatures roaming around! One stays on the lift, while the other remains in the chamber with Belinda, the Doctor, and the other troopers.
Multiple Midnight Monsters Existing Makes Them A Much Scarier Doctor Who Villain
The Midnight Monsters Pose A Bigger Threat Now
Regardless of how many Midnight Monsters might exist, just one would be enough to strike terror into anyone’s heart. This monster, as portrayed in the episode “Midnight,” has the power to rob the Doctor of their voice and leave them utterly incapacitated. In that very same storyline, we see the Doctor at their most frightened. Once it attaches itself to a person, this creature can uncover secrets hidden deep within their mind, such as their true identity. In “Midnight,” the monster also employs mind games against its victims. Furthermore, in “The Well,” we learn that the Midnight Monster has the ability to drive an entire mining base’s inhabitants insane, causing them to turn on each other and commit acts of violence.
The more monsters that appear, the more enigmatic they become, as we’re left guessing about their shared mindset, individual behavior, and underlying intentions.
Additionally, it’s unlikely that these Midnight Monsters will be swiftly vanquished. If the characters manage to defeat one, similar creatures could step in to fill the void, as demonstrated by Shayna when she found a way to kill one in “The Well” of Doctor Who. Keeping this in mind, the Doctor Who villain has the potential to become a recurring antagonist, even after many years have passed, due to its sheer terror and lasting impact.
