Henry Golding details ‘Crazy Rich Asians’ reunions as Max develops TV series: ‘Really excited’
Henry Golding shared that he’s renewed contact with various colleagues from the “Crazy Rich Asians” production team, as it appears the popular movie, adapted from Kevin Kwan’s trilogy of books, may continue in a small-screen format.
2018 film star Golding, known for playing wealthy charmer Nick Young, revealed to the “Today” show on Wednesday that he’s recently met up with co-stars Awkwafina and Gemma Chan individually. During these meetings, they talked about a series in progress at Max, which has everyone feeling enthusiastic according to Golding.
Actor Ken Jeong, known for his roles in “Snake Eyes” and “Another Simple Favor”, recently had a get-together with Awkwafina not so long ago and recently rekindled his friendship with Chan. In London, he also met up with Adele Lim, one of the writers from “Crazy Rich Asians”, to talk about our future plans.
Movies
The movie ‘Crazy Rich Asians,’ directed by Jon M. Chu and written in collaboration with Lim and Peter Chiarelli, featured an entire Asian cast and marked a significant milestone in giving underrepresented voices more visibility in Hollywood. The film grossed approximately $240 million globally on a production budget of just $30 million, setting the stage for a sequel inspired by Kwan’s second novel, ‘China Rich Girlfriend.’
Back in 2019, a shocking piece of news surfaced that the production of “Crazy Rich Asians 2” had encountered a major setback when Constance Wu decided to part ways due to pay inequality issues. Since then, the fate of the sequel remained uncertain. However, it looks like Wu is ready to revisit the world of “Crazy Rich Asians.” Interestingly enough, Warner Bros. Discovery, which owns both Max and Warner Bros. Pictures, the distributor of the original film, seems to be involved in bringing this story back to life once more. As a movie enthusiast, I can’t wait to see what happens next!
Lim is going to take on the roles of executive producer, writer, and showrunner for a new TV project by Warner Bros. Television. Kwan and Chu, through their Electric Somewhere production company, are also returning as executive producers. Additionally, Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson from Color Force will also serve as executive producers. The series is yet to be determined where it continues, but it will be adapted from Kwan’s books.

Books
At the L.A. Times Festival of Books, ‘Wicked’ director Jon M. Chu expressed that the entertainment industry hastily advanced past the initial ethical lapse, or original sin, of artificial general intelligence (AGI), concerning its training data collection process.
1) The series is still in its initial stages without any confirmed casting agreements yet, but Lim is eager for the original cast members to rejoin the show, according to reports. In a recent interview on “Today”, Golding did not explicitly confirm his participation but hinted that there’s plenty more of the “Crazy Rich Asians” universe to explore.
“I think we’re really excited to show more,” he said.
