Gillian Anderson Reveals What It Would Take for Her to Return as Scully in X-Files Reboot
Following the movie “Sinners”, filmmaker Ryan Coogler plans to rejuvenate the franchise with an entirely fresh TV series. Although specific details about this new project remain scarce, there’s a possibility that Gillian Anderson may reprise her role as Dana Scully, but she hasn’t definitively stated whether she’ll be part of it or not.
In the wake of the triumph of Sinners, Coogler expressed interest in having Angela Bassett back as Scully. During a recent interview on This Morning, Bassett confirmed that she had indeed spoken with Coogler. She disclosed what they discussed during their conversation and also hinted at the possibility of returning to the role of Scully, provided the idea is a strong one and it feels like the ideal moment to revisit the character.
Anderson expressed that he had a conversation, and during this conversation, he told him, “If someone were to undertake such a task, I believe you would be ideal for it, and here’s wishing you the best of luck.” Anderson added, “Do give me a call, but remember, if my phone rings at a convenient time, with a good opportunity that seems right, I might just get back to you.” He concluded by saying, “He is truly exceptional.
Will Dana Scully Appear in the Reboot of The X-Files?
As a fan, I’ve been eagerly anticipating my upcoming role in the revival of “The X-Files,” as Ryan Coogler himself mentioned during his interview on “Last Podcast on the Left.” After wrapping up “Sinners,” I can hardly contain my excitement to dive back into this project. And if we do our best, some of the episodes could prove to be truly terrifying.
Ryan Coogler commented, “I had a conversation with Gillian. She’s amazing! Let’s hope it works out. I’m eager to meet her. She stars in Tron [Ares], and after watching its trailer, I can hardly wait. We were discussing our project when she was wrapping up that one. Our goal is to create something truly exceptional, something that will appeal not only to die-hard X-Files fans but also attract new ones.
It’s quite likely that fans might ponder whether David Duchovny could reprise his role as Fox Mulder, given their history with Scully. However, Coogler hasn’t confirmed any discussions with Duchovny about this. If the plan is to bring back Scully, it suggests a strong possibility that Mulder might make a comeback too, but ultimately, it seems that the decision lies with Coogler and his team on whether or not Mulder will reappear.
Instead of starting my day asking about the stock of the X-Files, Duchovny shared, “I’m curious about that, but I adore that show.” He added, “I can’t imagine what my character would be like now. It’s an intriguing thought. The show could tackle current issues just as effectively as it did in the ’90s. It all depends on Chris [Carter] or the other writers. I’m always eager to see what they come up with.
Coogler’s Sinners is currently playing in theaters.
