Despite its reputation for unapologetically graphic representations, the most striking moment might just be the demise of the character Ashtray, played by Javon Walton, in the final episode of the second season.

In a tragic turn of events during a SWAT operation, Ashtray, Fez’s adopted younger sibling, lost his life in a harrowing manner. Cornered inside a bathroom and wounding an officer with a shotgun, Ashtray’s actions paved the way for his demise. Despite the abrupt camera cut-off before the gunshot echoed, the chilling image of the laser sight targeted on his youthful forehead remained deeply unsettling.

The White Lotus: Season 3, Episode 8, “Amor Fati”

The television series “The White Lotus” might have delivered its most stunning season yet following the recent finale, with an ending that includes a death scene that is particularly startling. In contrast, as Lucius, weary from war, seemed to be settling into civilian life again, it appeared that Niobe’s deception had been successful and, ironically, beneficial. Regrettably, this made the tragic turn of events even more poignant when she became unknowingly entangled in a plot to kill Julius Caesar, with Vorenus being informed of the truth to lead him away from Caesar’s side. Faced with her heartbroken husband, Niobe chose to leap from a balcony instead of enduring his anger, thus ending Rome’s first season in a shocking manner.

9. Jimmy Darmody

Boardwalk Empire: Season 2, Episode 12, “To The Lost”

Although Terence Winter stated that Jimmy Darmody was destined to be killed by Nucky Thompson, the abrupt way his death occurred in the final episode of Boardwalk Empire’s second season seemed unusually swift. At first, the show had portrayed Pitt’s powerful performance as a crucial figure during its initial stages.

After their partnership turned sour, Jimmy was fatally shot by his ex-mentor in an attempt to halt his plans. Martin’s “Fire and Blood” by portraying a character’s death that seemed accidental; however, Aemond’s role in Lucerys’ demise was no coincidence according to Martin’s original narrative. Regardless, the brutal killing of Velaryon was the most shocking moment yet in the series, delivered with cinematic flair.

Barry: Season 1, Episode 8, “Chapter Eight: Know Your Truth”

Under the exceptional acting of Bill Hader, Barry stood as one of HBO’s often overlooked gems during its four-season span. However, by the end, it seemed like the main characters had found a somewhat optimistic resolution as the final episode approached.

Despite Barry’s efforts to begin anew, Hader’s character found himself in a situation where he had to take Moss’ life during a getaway with their partners, after she unmasked him. The Wire: Season 1, Episode 12, “Cleaning Up”

In the critically acclaimed TV series “The Wire” on HBO, characters like Stringer Bell and Omar Little were portrayed, setting a high standard for unexpected and shocking character deaths on television over five seasons. Tricked into getting in a car with Silvio and driven deep into the wilderness, viewers share Adriana’s horror as she realizes her fate is imminent. Actress Drea de Matteo portrays this character being dragged from the vehicle while shrieking, before Silvio cold-bloodedly murders her off-camera, leaving only her pitiful pleas and desperate crawling on all fours echoing in the woods.

During the duration of “Game of Thrones”, it gained a reputation for abruptly eliminating important characters. However, this trend is arguably more noticeable from the second season onwards. This shift became particularly apparent when it delivered one of its most stunning twists in the penultimate episode of the first season titled “Baelor”.
