You Won’t Believe How Guy Ritchie & Jason Statham’s Spy Thriller Made a Stunning Streaming Comeback!

As a devoted fan, I can’t help but admire the impressive careers of both Jason Statham and Matt Damon. Starting with “Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels,” these two powerhouses have graced our screens with numerous successful collaborations. While their latest project didn’t quite resonate when it first hit theaters, their collective talent remains undeniable.

As a movie enthusiast, I didn’t expect much from Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre given its less-than-stellar reception from critics and modest box office performance. However, just like some other films, it seems to have found a second life on streaming platforms. Now, two days after its premiere on Peacock, it’s sitting comfortably in the Top 10!

On April 28, Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre was released on Peacock, and by the next day, it had already created quite a stir. Initially debuting at the ninth spot on Apr. 29, the spy thriller managed to move up to sixth place just one day later on Apr. 30.

The movie Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre centers around Orson Fortune, a skilled secret agent, as he races against time to recover a stolen advanced gadget known as “The Handle”. This device is being sought after by arms dealer Greg Simmonds, who intends to sell it to the highest bidder. To aid him in his mission, they enlist the help of popular actor Danny Francesco (portrayed by Josh Hartnett).

In this rendition, Ritchie, together with Ivan Atkinson and Marn Davies, took on the roles of director and co-scriptwriter. Apart from Jason Statham, Pierce Brosnan, and Jeremy Renner, the action spy movie also featured Aubrey Plaza (known for her role in ‘The White Lotus’), Cary Elwes (famous for his performances in ‘The Princess Bride’ and ‘Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One’), and Bugzy Malone.

In the year 2023, the movie made its release, marking it as the fifth collaboration between these two talented individuals. Since their initial venture together, they have been involved in numerous hit productions such as “Wrath of Man” from 2021 and “Snatch,” dated back to 2000.

Despite their films garnering massive box office revenues and their overall success, this particular movie drew mixed opinions from critics. On Rotten Tomatoes, it currently holds a 51% approval rating, but on Popcornmeter, it boasts an impressive 82% from the audience. While the audience’s score is certainly exciting, it didn’t manage to push the action film towards widespread success.

The film “Operation Fortune: Rise of War” boasted potential for success, primarily due to the star power of Richie and Statham who could draw audiences to the cinema. Additionally, the ensemble cast added to the appeal. Regrettably, it underperformed at the box office. With a production cost of $50 million, its total earnings amounted to just $48.9 million. This film represents the second joint effort by Statham and director David Ayer. It generated a revenue of $89.6 million while having a production budget of $40 million (according to ).

Director Guy Ritchie is set to debut his action-packed heist movie on May 23rd exclusively on Apple TV+.
