Thunderbolts’ Box Office Projections Soar Ahead of Premiere, Breaking Expectations!
As the release date of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s last Phase Five film approaches, excitement builds, with box office predictions indicating a blockbuster premiere due to heightened anticipation among fans.
As a movie enthusiast, I’m excited to share that initial estimates predict “Thunderbolts” could rake in an impressive $73 million domestically and between $160 million and $175 million globally during its first three days on the big screen. This domestic figure is a step up from earlier predictions, which bodes well for the film’s success.
In its opening weekend, “Thunderbolts” will go head-to-head with Ryan Coogler’s critically acclaimed vampire flick, “Sinners”, Ben Affleck and Jon Bernthal’s action-packed sequel, “The Accountant 2”, and the year’s second-highest-grossing film, “A Minecraft Movie”. It promises to be a fierce box office battle!
Despite the fact that Thunderbolts* might not perform as well during its opening weekend compared to Captain America: Brave New World, Marvel is optimistic that the film’s positive hype will help it surpass expectations. Preliminary reviews for Thunderbolts* have been quite favorable, even earning the best rating for an MCU movie since 2021’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.
Under the guidance of director Jake Schreier, the movie titled “*Thunderbolts*” follows a band of anti-heroes such as Yelena Belova/White Widow (Florence Pugh), Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian (David Harbour), John Walker/U.S. Agent (Wyatt Russell), Ava Starr/Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen) and Antonia Dreykov/Taskmaster (Olga Kurylenko). Sebastian Stan portrays their de facto leader, who happens to be a U.S. Congressman. In “*Thunderbolts*”, these former villains are compelled to work together after being ensnared in a lethal trap set by CIA director Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus). To redeem themselves for their past misdeeds, they embark on a perilous mission of global significance. The film also presents the Golden Guardian character with a sinister twist, played by Lewis Pullman, as he enters the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) for the first time.
While Thunderbolts may involve connections to Black Widow, specifically Yelena and Red Guardian, it is essential to note that the film primarily delves into the character’s trust issues and emotional turmoil following the demise of Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow, as portrayed by Johansson.
Thunderbolts* Sets Up Phase Six
As Phase Five concludes, “Thunderbolts” prepares the ground for the eagerly awaited Phase Six movie, where the revamped Avengers will square off against Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom. Notably, some cast members from “Thunderbolts” have been verified for “Doomsday”, which commenced filming in the U.K. on April 28. Kurylenko and others are included in this lineup.
Thunderbolts* opens in theaters across North America on May 2.
