Ferne McCann Breastfeeds Toddler on Holiday: Fans React to 21-Month-Old Finty’s Feeding Journey

On a recent holiday, Ferne McCann’s decision to breastfeed her toddler Finty in an Instagram video stirred differing views. She admitted finding it difficult to refuse such moments with her child.

In the summer of 2023, the previous star of TOWIE, who was 33 years old at the time, gave birth to Finty, a baby that was 21 months old by then, alongside her partner Lorri Haines. Additionally, she already had a daughter named Sunday, who was seven years old, with her former boyfriend Arthur Collins.

Ferne’s actions have stirred up debate among her supporters due to the ongoing perception that she is making it more acceptable to breastfeed an older child.

Health experts advise that infants should be exclusively fed breast milk during their first half year, and then continue breastfeeding along with solid food as they grow, ideally until they are two years old or even beyond, if feasible.

‘Yes, she’s 21 months. And yes, we’re ‘still’ breastfeeding’, she wrote across the video.

She captioned her post: ‘I get asked all the time “Are you STILL breastfeeding?”

It seems incredibly normal to me, and I find myself pondering when the conversation shifted from “Are you nursing?” to “Have you stopped nursing?

‘There’s so much misinformation about how long breastfeeding is “appropriate.”

‘Here’s what most people don’t realise…

The World Health Organization advises that mothers should continue breastfeeding for at least the first two years. This not only strengthens their immune system but also fosters a deeper emotional bond. It’s important to remember that this is not about spoiling them; rather, it’s about providing nurturance and care.

How about we continue our discussion freely. #ProlongedBreastfeeding #ParentLife #Nursing #BreastfedChild #MotherlyLove

In my perspective, I’ve found myself right in the middle of an engaging discussion ignited by her latest post, which showcased her breastfeeding journey. The majority of her followers, including me, have been expressing admiration and praise towards this inspiring star for sharing such a personal and empowering experience.

Some wrote: ‘I have no idea why people think that’s anyone’s business but yours Well done you xx’,

‘I say it again, THANKYOU for using your platform like this’,

Let’s all be aware of our choice of words, especially terms such as ‘still’. Remember, it’s natural for things to take time and we should focus on the positive aspects of what you’re still accomplishing! Keep going, mama, keep shining!

‘We did it till 3 and it made everything so easy and perfect for us’,

Feeding my 3.5-year-old has just come to an end, and it was both joyful and sad. It’s a unique present, one that you can bestow upon your child and yourself, making it incredibly meaningful.

‘Love this so much. Thank you for normalising ❤️❤️’,

Ah, what a delight – cherish every moment! For six enchanting years, I’ve had the privilege of nourishing not one but two little ones through breastfeeding. Now, it’s a new chapter as I’ve recently bid farewell to this profoundly beautiful experience.

After receiving a significant amount of encouragement, others voiced their exasperation regarding the continued practice of breastfeeding an older child.

Comments read: ‘When they get teeth, like why ??’

‘It’s fine but why put it on here’,

I appreciate the effort you’re putting into sharing your experiences, but I can’t help but wonder if expressing it verbally might be more effective in this case. Your videos of breastfeeding seem to focus more on showcasing yourself than on educational or informative purposes. We’re already aware of what breastfeeding is; perhaps a verbal explanation would be more beneficial.

‘If ther health eating 3 meals a day they just using you for comfort’

Last week, during an Instagram Q&A session, Ferne mentioned that she finds it difficult to refuse breastfeeding her daughter Finty.

She mentioned that while they were traveling, Finty continued breastfeeding whenever needed.

It seems I opted to make things simpler by giving it to her. Breastfeeding beyond the first month, particularly during our travels, offers numerous advantages.

Currently, her desires seem persistent, which makes it challenging for me to refuse. I haven’t attempted to halt this pattern with my partner as of now.

‘I think it will be really difficult when we eventually do end our BF journey.’
