Ed Sheeran’s Drunken Throwback Frenzy

With no question, he boasts a substantial following among celebrities due to his catchy tunes and engaging charisma.

As a lifestyle enthusiast, I can’t help but notice the undeniable charm of Ed Sheeran, who recently showcased his camaraderie with some true A-listers by sharing a series of nostalgic, good-spirited snaps from a past gathering – all while under the influence of an evening’s cheer.

34-year-old musician is delving into old photographs from an antique camera for his newly created Instagram account, in anticipation of the unveiling of his new song titled “Old Phone” scheduled for release on April 29th.

The collection of retro photos taken during nights out features Ed Sheeran regularly hanging out with Harry Styles, Taylor Swift, Bruno Mars, Ellie Goulding, Gigi Hadid, and Usher.

Others snap an emblematic backstage scene featuring Ellen DeGeneres, Julia Roberts, Meryl Streep, Jennifer Lawrence, and Brad Pitt.

With old photos, all taken prior to 2015, Ed explains the significance of each picture through his captions.

Among the snaps captured were very boozy moments from his prime.

In one snap, Ed is seen smoking cigarettes and drinking beers with Bruno Mars and Ellie Golding.

Another captures a very young looking Ed and Harry Styles with the caption ‘Snow Direction’.

In a picture featuring Usher, he shared that he took us to an extraordinary pizzeria in Atlanta, where we engaged in a fun game.

Ed mentioned that it was while going through his old phone during the copyright dispute over his popular hit, Thinking Out Loud, that he felt motivated to compose the new tune.

Initially, Ed asserted that he hadn’t plagiarized Marvin Gaye’s iconic soul track “Let’s Get it On” for his 2014 smash hit. Later on, in 2023, a court ruled in his favor.

In his latest Instagram update, Ed shared an insight: “Turn on the audio and give it a listen. Since 2015, I’ve abandoned my smartphone and shifted to emails entirely. I switched my phone off in December of ’15, and that was the end of it.

Upon being served a lawsuit, the court mandated that I surrender my previous gadgets to the opposing counsel for scrutiny, which involved examining messages, emails, voice memos, videos, and similar data to uncover evidence beneficial to their argument. In this process, I accidentally activated my old phone.

Here are the messages I received:

1. My old friend Jamal Edwards, who sadly passed away not long ago, was the sender of the first message.
2. The second message came from my ex-girlfriend with whom I had lost touch years ago.
3. A family member I haven’t spoken to in a decade sent the third message.
4. And so on… (implies that there were more messages from people I haven’t been in contact with for a long time)

Ed confessed that browsing through his phone stirred up strong emotions within him due to various factors, such as finding images of deceased friends among them.

He expressed: “Using it felt like opening a time capsule, stepping back into the phase of my life during 2015. As soon as I turned it on, I was swept away, finding myself reading old messages and chats with individuals who are now absent.

Reflecting on my messages from deceased friends that I can no longer converse with, I find myself shedding tears. I also stumble upon old pictures of me with individuals who were once very dear to me, but over time our connection has faded.

Reflecting on the entire adventure, it was a deeply moving odyssey for me. One night in India, while battling jet lag, I penned the melody for ‘Old Phone’ all by myself at 2am, and recorded it early that very same day. It seems to be a tune that should have been included on my initial album, yet at the same time, it’s a piece I wouldn’t have been able to compose until I went through some genuine life events.

Regarding the poignant tune he’s been working on, Ed commented: “Singing this song stirs up emotions within me; I hope it does the same for you. Perhaps it prompts you to dust off your old phone and reminisce about a decade gone by as well. Whatever its effect, I’m grateful I penned it. ‘Old Phone’ will be released this Thursday at 11am EDT / 4pm BST.

Ed shared touching tributes by posting photos featuring the late Mac Miller (who passed away in 2018) and Jamal Edwards (who sadly died in 2022).

Next to the photo featuring Mac, he wrote: “Mac showed me Pittsburgh in 2015, we spent hours playing pool and it was an incredibly fun evening. I truly miss him.
