Shawn Levy: How Stranger Things Taught Him to Keep Star Wars Secrets

Shawn Levy has shared that working as both a director and executive producer on “Stranger Things” has provided him valuable insights for his upcoming directorial endeavor, titled “Star Wars: Starfighter“. This highly-anticipated sci-fi film was unveiled during the recent Star Wars Celebration held in Japan.

Working on “Stranger Things” over an extended period helped Levy learn the art of maintaining secrecy, which proved useful during his work on the “Star Wars” movie. He commented, “Stranger Things taught me to keep my secrets.” He was able to maintain silence about Ryan Gosling’s involvement, as well as the title and release date of his “Star Wars” project for quite some time. As a result, he feels both proud of himself and appreciative towards “Stranger Things.

In the upcoming film titled “Star Wars: Starfighter”, Academy Award-nominated actor Ryan Gosling will take on the lead role. This project is being directed by Jonathan Tropper, who wrote the screenplay for “The Adam Project”. At the movie’s official announcement, director Levy clarified that this new production doesn’t fall under the categories of a prequel or sequel but instead offers an exciting experience for Star Wars fans, distinct from what has been seen before.

The narrative unfolds five years after the events depicted in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. This upcoming tale promises to unveil fresh characters and delve into a timeframe that hasn’t been portrayed on-screen so far. As per Gosling, the project is brimming with warmth, excitement, and there simply couldn’t be a more fitting director for this specific story than Shawn.

The Final Season of Stranger Things Is Directed By Levy

The critically acclaimed Netflix series, Stranger Things – a blend of growing-up stories and sci-fi suspense – is set to conclude with its fifth and final season. Levy has been part of the creative team for this finale, having directed several episodes in collaboration with creators Matt and Ross Duffer. Before this, Levy was primarily recognized for helming some of the show’s standout episodes such as “Dear Billy” from last year.

The main characters in this production are Millie Bobby Brown portraying Eleven, Finn Wolfhard as Mike, Gaten Matarazzo as Dustin, Sadie Sink as Max, Caleb McLaughlin as Lucas, Noah Schnapp as Will, Winona Ryder as Joyce, David Harbour as Hopper, Natalia Dyer as Nancy, Maya Hawke as Robin, Joe Keery as Steve Harrington, Charlie Heaton as Jonathan, and Jamie Campbell Bower as Henry Creel/Vecna, among others.

Previously, in an interview, The Duffer Brothers referred to Season 5 as their most ambitious project so far. They compared it to producing eight blockbuster films, which they found quite extraordinary. Matt Duffer further hinted at the emotional intensity of the final plotline, describing it as their most personal story.

I found the filming process incredibly poignant and moving, not just for me but also for our actors who’ve been with us through the years. We’ve been creating this show together for nearly a decade now, and it was an emotional journey. Tears were shed, plenty of them. The show holds a significant place in each one of our hearts, and we poured all our passion and dedication into making it. We genuinely hope that this heartfelt effort will shine through on the screen.
