The trailer for the new Hunger Games movie, Sunrise on the Reaping, gives fans a first look at the story. That film launched a popular five-movie series, and a sixth installment is coming out later this year.

The story takes place in Panem, a country divided into 13 districts controlled by a powerful central government called The Capitol. This is a brutal fight to the death, and the single survivor is rewarded with a life of wealth and comfort.

She quickly became a beacon of hope and sparked a revolt against the cruel President Snow. Sunrise on the Reaping is a prequel story set between the events of the 2023 movie and the original Hunger Games film. It centers around the Second Quarter Quell, a special edition of the Hunger Games, and features a young Haymitch Abernathy competing as the tribute from District 12. President Snow Is Still Bitter About What Happened With Lucy

In A Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, Coriolanus Snow mentors Lucy Gray Baird, the tribute from District 12, during the tenth Hunger Games. After the Games, Snow and Lucy become involved romantically, but she leaves him when she realizes how violent he is. He then returns to The Capitol and begins his climb to power, eventually becoming president.

The new trailer for Sunrise on the Reaping begins with a conversation between President Snow and Haymitch. Snow hints that he knows about Haymitch’s past, specifically a relationship he had back in his home district. He points out that despite any love Haymitch may have felt, he’ll ultimately be on his own during the games.

It seems Snow is still hurt by his past relationship with Lucy. He’s become distrustful of love, yet he also feels a pang of jealousy when he sees happy couples. This likely fuels his dislike of Haymitch, and could be the reason he eventually treats Katniss with contempt, as she reminds him of Lucy.

Sunrise On The Reaping’s Trailer Teases The Early Stages Of The Rebellion

The trailer introduces younger versions of familiar characters like Beetee, Wiress, and Plutarch Heavensbee, and reveals how they began laying the groundwork for the rebellion.

I’ve been rewatching the trailer, and it’s so clear Beetee and Wiress are already thinking about how to fight back! Beetee’s line about stopping the Games meaning they can stop the Capitol really hit me, and then Wiress pointing out that even the arena – this incredibly dangerous machine – can be broken… it’s brilliant! It makes me think they’re going to be hugely important to the rebellion, and honestly, I have a feeling Plutarch is playing a bigger game too, secretly preparing for things to come.

Though the rebellion doesn’t begin until 25 years after the events of this movie, following the Third Quarter Quell, The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping promises to lay the groundwork for it and tie everything in the series together.
