Fans Reject Kerry Washington’s ‘Desperate Housewives’ Reboot: ‘We Don’t Need This!’

The latest iteration of the popular TV show “Desperate Housewives” called ABC series, titled ‘Desperate Housewives: New Era’, is under development, yet its announcement has left fans less than thrilled.

At Onyx Collective, the project previously known as ‘Wisteria Lane’ is undergoing a fresh interpretation, and Kerry Washington is among the executive producers, according to Variety.

The series focuses on five unique individuals residing in the picturesque cul-de-sac called Wisteria Lane, which appears to be a utopia at first glance. However, the charming exteriors conceal a multitude of unspoken truths and buried mysteries.

The TV series, initially broadcast from 2004 to 2012, was also based in the suburban area of Wisteria Lane. It chronicled the lives of characters such as Susan Mayer (portrayed by Teri Hatcher), Lynette Scavo (Felicity Huffman), Bree Van de Kamp (Marcia Cross), and Gabrielle Solis (Eva Longoria).

After hearing about the remake, fans voiced their displeasure on social media, with one stating, ‘There was no need for this, the original was already flawless.’

‘Desperate Housewives 2.0 – now with 100% more desperation!’ someone else chimed in on X.

The discussion went on, with the remark: ‘If Teri, Eva, Felicity, and Marcia are not the main attractions, they can be absolutely certain that they will remain hidden within the unpublished documents.’

‘Did we completely run out of original ideas?’

Another fan wrote: ‘We don’t need a new cast. We want a return of our own ladies.’

Someone else simply asked: ‘Why?’

A more straightforward and casual rephrasing could be: “It’s usually not wise to assign a fresh team for a reboot when the original one isn’t on board. If possible, avoid it.

‘Hard pass,’ yet another wrote.

The original ‘Desperate Housewives’ was the brainchild of Marc Cherry.

The show ran for eight seasons and nearly 200 episodes on ABC from 2004 to 2012.

Throughout its broadcast, the program received 38 Emmy Award nominations. In 2005, Jill Hennessy took home the award for Lead Actress in a Comedy series, while Kathryn Joosten won Guest Actress in a Comedy category on two separate occasions.

The show was originally produced by ABC Studios.

In this new venture, Natalie Chaidez takes on dual roles as both the writer and executive producer. Meanwhile, Pilar Savone joins in as an executive producer through Simpson Street.

Stacey Sher of Shiny Penny is also set to executive produce.

The show’s official description tells us it revolves around a diverse group of 5 friends or ‘frenemies,’ who reside on an idyllic cul-de-sac named Wisteria Lane. At first glance, the residents of Wisteria seem to be living the ideal life, complete with stunning homes, lovely families, and luxurious SUVs parked in their driveways. However, beneath those charming white picket fences and cheerful social media posts, there lie hidden secrets.

The news comes after Longoria spoke about the possibility of a revival.

On Monday evening, I graced the stage of Bravo’s Watch What Happens Live, eager to share some insights about my latest venture, “Searching For Spain,” a captivating series that premiered on Sunday night on CNN.

Previously, Longoria expressed her enthusiasm for a Desperate Housewives revival or remake, leading to an inquiry from a curious fan.

The fan wrote into WWHL to ask who might be standing in the way of a Desperate Housewives reunion.

It might astonish certain followers, as Longoria disclosed that the creator of the show was actually none other than Marc.

Marc Cherry, the person who brought these characters to life, seems to think they’ve reached their limits, according to Longoria. This revelation left Andy Cohen in surprise.

She mentioned, “It’s quite different from Sex and the City, as it had around six to eight episodes per season. In contrast, we produced 24 episodes annually for a whole decade.

Longoria humorously implied that, given how many residents there are on Wisteria Lane from the show, it would be impossible for her to sleep with any more people there.

During her appearance on Watch What Happens Live, fellow guest Sandra Bernhard inquired about whether Longoria’s character, Gabrielle, had romantic entanglements with any female characters on the show.

As Bernhard playfully suggested a ‘half season’ of that incident, I found myself pausing and questioning, “Did I, indeed?” I said, reflecting on my previous statement.

‘We got to convince Marc Cherry,’ Longoria insisted of the show’s creator and executive producer.

When Cohen inquired about whether she was still receiving ‘healthy residual payments’ from the show, she merely gave a smile and replied, “I am doing fine.

The TV series “Desperate Housewives” provided the basis for Bravo’s “Real Housewives” franchise, taking inspiration from ‘real-life counterparts of the desperate housewives depicted in the show.’

The program was adapted in various countries as well, including Argentina from 2006 to 2007, Colombia and Ecuador in 2007, Brazil from 2007 to 2008, Turkey between 2011 and 2014, and Nigeria in 2015.

One of several South Korean soap operas, particularly Desperate Housewives, was forbidden on North Korean TV. The government is said to have executed over 80 individuals accused of watching these banned series.
