One of 2025’s most anticipated horror movies gets terrifying first trailer

Julia Garner’s new horror movie Weapons has landed a terrifying first trailer.

The movie, hailing from director Zach Cregger of “Barbarian,” is labeled as a “connected, multi-story horror saga.” It centers around a tight-knit town that’s in shock following the strange disappearance of a group of schoolchildren during the night.

In addition to the themes of police corruption, generational trauma, witchcraft, blood rituals, and religious abuse, “Weapons” boasts an impressive cast that includes Josh Brolin, Alden Ehrenreich, Benedict Wong, Amy Madigan, Austin Abrams, and June Diane Raphael.

In the trailer, we meet Mrs. Gandy, a schoolteacher portrayed by Garner, who walks into her class one day to discover that all her pupils are absent.

According to a young girl’s account, Mrs Gandy’s room was completely vacant. The reason being, during the early hours of the previous night, precisely at 2:17 am, every child woke up, left their beds, walked down the stairs into the dark and never returned.

In a recent chat with Entertainment Weekly, Cregger playfully referred to the enigma surrounding the vanished kids as a significant driving force for roughly half the film. However, he clarified that this mystery isn’t the entire focus of the movie.

He mentioned that the film will diverge, evolve, and reinvent itself, venturing into uncharted territories. Rest assured, it doesn’t leave the initial question unanswered, but it’s not just about that. By halfway through, we’ve already delved into much more bizarre events than the initial query.

In contrast to his 2022 horror blockbuster “Barbarian”, the filmmaker noted that the new project is significantly more expansive in nearly every aspect, not merely referring to its financial backing, but rather emphasizing the creative aspects.

The tale has become more complex, puzzling, and expansive. There will be an increased number of performers involved in the production. The scales for the sets have undoubtedly grown larger. Essentially, it’s a larger, stranger film compared to Barbarian.

Weapons is due to hit cinemas on 8 August.
