Five Star Confessions: From ‘Extra Baggy’ to ‘Much Cooler’ — The Evolution of a Boyband!
The lead singer of a well-known five-piece band confessed that he currently feels far more stylish, given his current role within the band, compared to the oversized outfits they wore on stage during the ’90s.
Greetings! As a lifestyle aficionado, I had the distinct honor of gracing the cover of Sir! Magazine’s inaugural issue. In an intimate, off-the-cuff conversation, the iconic boyband reminisced about their journey down memory lane, poking fun at the stark contrast in their fashion choices from yesteryears. It was a delightful walk down nostalgia lane!
The pop band that originated in 1997, known as the English group, is made up of individuals: Sean Conlon, Ritchie Neville, Scott Robinson, Abz Love, and Jason ‘J’ Brown.
Reflecting back on their eyebrow piercings and oversized pants, they struck a pose for the magazine cover together with Aitch and Roy Winstone.
Jason, aged 48, admitted, “At times, I’ve found myself reflecting and thinking, ‘It’s hard to believe that was me performing on stage.’
Since I transformed so drastically. Yet, whenever I re-immerse myself, it still feels present.

45-year-old Ritchie jokingly remarked, “My trousers were so loose they might’ve flown away with just a strong breeze!
While Sean, aged 43, discovered a positive aspect from past amusing glances, he remarked: “Now it’s far more stylish.
In a pub or eatery, someone identifies you as Sean from ‘Five’ or ‘J’ from ‘Five’, and they exclaim, “Are you Sean from Five? Are you J from Five?” To which you respond affirmatively, “Yes, I am.” They express their fondness for the music, and truthfully, it makes the moment quite pleasant.
Earlier, the group had only communicated with TopMob, and they found themselves arguing among themselves when they finally disclosed the proper spelling of their name.
5 members, popularly recognized as “Five” due to their impressive sales of over 20 million records globally prior to disbanding in 2001, are five individuals who achieved this recognition.
For several decades, enthusiasts of the band have been using this specific term, and their Wikipedia page also mentions that the band’s name is stylized as “5ive” (pronounced as “Five”).
Last month, fans were taken aback by a TikTok video posted by the group, titled: “When folks mistake us for ‘5ive’ rather than ‘Five'”, which depicted them angrily kicking bottles and slamming against walls in dismay.
So strongly do they feel about their name being correctly represented, when questioned by TopMob as to why they removed ‘the 5’ from their moniker, Richie quickly responded with a firm denial: “We didn’t!

26 years ago when they premiered their Slam Dunk (Da Funk) music video, Scott clarified that the unique way they spell their name wasn’t always the case.
Or:
Back in the day when they first released their Slam Dunk (Da Funk) music video, Scott explained that their name was originally spelled differently from what it is now.
He stated: “The video features a ‘5’, however, it has never been part of any of our albums! The error lies with Spotify as they have the ‘5’. Our band is named F, I, V, E.
Sean, acknowledging that it had been a source of dispute among the group, then expressed: ‘I find it hard to comprehend – knowing that I might face criticism – you may lash out at me – I simply can’t grasp why it’s causing such an uproar.’
The group then immediately started bickering as J bellowed: ‘I don’t like it!’
Scott said, “It seems ridiculous, more like 5Five. But we go by Five, so Five it is, I beg you, I implore you!
