Chubby and Cyndi will soon join the rock hall of fame, but Phish will have to wait

The rock hall of fame’s newest list of inductees would make for one crazy playlist.

On Monday, it was revealed that Cyndi Lauper, Joe Cocker, The White Stripes, and Chubby Checker, among other artists, are set to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame’s Class of 2025. This esteemed organization will pay tribute to these musicians at a ceremony in November.

In Trump’s America, the renowned Spanish rock band would become the very first predominantly Spanish-speaking act to be inducted, a tribute of exceptional significance.

The lineup is completed by Bad Company, Outkast, and Soundgarden, along with Salt-N-Pepa and Warren Zevon – all receiving the musical influence award. Thom Bell (producer-songwriter), Nicky Hopkins (keyboardist), and Carol Kaye (bassist) will be celebrated for their exceptional musical talent; Kaye has participated in numerous recording sessions throughout her career. Lastly, Lenny Waronker, a prominent music executive, will receive the lifetime achievement award for non-performers – an honor named after Ahmet Ertegan, co-founder of the Rock Hall and Atlantic Records.

In order for a band or artist to be eligible for induction, they must have at least 25 years of professional recording experience under their belt. This year, Checker, Cocker, Outkast, and Bad Company were inducted on their first nomination, whereas the rest had previously been considered.

In a statement, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame’s chairperson, John Sykes, noted that each of these inductees developed a unique style and attitude that left an indelible mark on society, altering the trajectory of Rock & Roll for good. Their music served as a powerful medium, echoing through generations, inspiring numerous artists who carried their influence forward.

In February, the ballot given to voters featured musicians such as Mariah Carey, Billy Idol, Joy Division/New Order, Maná, Oasis, and Phish, but these artists were not ultimately selected. The list of potential voters for this hall includes 1,200 artists, historians, and music industry professionals.

Additionally, the Class of 2025 includes acts such as Bad Company, Chubby Checker, Maná, Billy Idol, and the White Stripes, along with several other artists.

In a recent report by Billboard, Phish emerged victorious in the fan voting with approximately 330,000 votes, yet they will not be inducted into the hall of fame this year as first-time nominees typically have to wait. The same goes for Billy Idol, who garnered around 260,000 fan votes and finished in third place. However, Bad Company, Lauper, and Cocker were still able to secure their places in the hall of fame despite placing second, fourth, and fifth among fans, respectively.

In the world of movies that I adore, last year saw some incredible talents being honored as inductees into the hall of fame. These included Mary J. Blige, Cher, the Dave Matthews Band, Foreigner, Peter Frampton, Kool & the Gang, Ozzy Osbourne, and A Tribe Called Quest.

On November 8th, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame’s induction ceremony will take place and will be live-streamed on Disney+.
