The Raid 3: Gareth Evans Hints at Sequel Revival

Currently wreaking havoc on Netflix, director [Director’s Name] has given a hopeful update to fans about another installment in his long-running violent action movie series that’s been absent for over a decade. Back in 2014, Evans introduced the exhilarating violence of “The Raid” to the world, featuring Iko Uwais, Arifin Putra, Oka Antara, Tio Pakusadewo, Alex Abbad, Julie Estelle, Ryuhei Matsuda, Kenichi Endō, and Kazuki Kitamura. Highly acclaimed as one of the greatest action movies ever made, news about a sequel had been scarce – until recently.

Discussing with Entertainment Weekly for the promotion of the Tom Hardy-led film “Havoc”, Evans discussed the possibility of a third Captain America movie, but initially seemed to dampen fans’ expectations by explaining how he abandoned the idea because of the elapsed time since the last film. He stated:

My response to that question was somewhat vague, indicating that I wasn’t ready to commit to a specific timeline. Originally, I had an idea for a movie that would have been released directly after The Raid 2, set just minutes after the second one ended. However, due to my involvement in other projects and the passage of time, I can no longer make that version of the film.

Essentially, I decided not to pursue another installment or The Raid 3, as I felt content with how The Raid 2 concluded. Consequently, I put the idea aside without any immediate plans for revisiting it.

Gareth Evans Had a Change of Heart About ‘The Raid 3’ After a Meeting With the Franchise’s Star

Even though it appeared as if the project was over, Evans mentioned that following a meeting with the star of The Raid, Iko Uwais, he started brainstorming about what The Raid 3 might become. Now, it seems like the film is poised for another look. He added:

For about seven years, it had been since I last met Iko in person. Despite frequent communication through WhatsApp, this encounter marked a significant time lapse since our previous meeting. Over the years, I’ve viewed Iko as my younger brother due to our unique bond and shared projects. Upon seeing him again after so long, I was taken aback by his growth, maturity, and the diverse experiences he had accumulated.

After contemplating, I have a fresh perspective on what The Raid 3 could potentially transform into. Thus, I haven’t ruled out the idea completely and perhaps we can revisit this topic. If I were to pursue such a project, I would ensure it’s the ideal adaptation of that movie.

Although Evans expressed reluctance to create The Raid 3 unless it could match the quality of the earlier films, it appears he may still be open to revisiting the series in the future. Fingers crossed that everything aligns for a satisfying conclusion to the trilogy.
