Annihilation lands new UK streaming home following Netflix removal
The movie “Annihilation” starring Natalie Portman has found a new UK streaming platform after it was taken off Netflix.
2018’s science-fiction horror film centers around a female-only crew exploring a sealed-off area teeming with what appears to be extraterrestrial flora and fauna, after it was taken over.
Although it was marketed as a Netflix Original in several regions, the movie is no longer streaming on Netflix, but can now be found on Amazon Prime Video in the United Kingdom and Ireland.

Although it may appear puzzling, the term ‘Netflix Original’ isn’t limited solely to content that Netflix itself produced. It also encompasses productions that Netflix acquired exclusive rights to showcase on their platform.

As a gamer, I’m thrilled that “Annihilation” was granted distribution rights by Netflix across most regions, originally produced and released cinematically in the U.S. by Paramount. Now that the license term has ended, it feels like winning a bonus level that Prime Video snagged the film for their streaming service!
As a dedicated fan, I can’t help but share my excitement about the stellar cast that graced the screen in “Annihilation.” Alongside Natalie Portman, this film features talents like Gina Rodriguez, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Tessa Thompson, Benedict Wong, and Oscar Isaac. Upon its debut, it was met with a torrent of praise from critics, often being compared to timeless masterpieces such as “Alien” and “The Thing.
Following the triumph of Ex Machina, I found myself yet again captivated by another win for the creative genius that is Alex Garland with his latest film. Later on, he continued to impress me with his work as both writer and director in projects such as Men, Civil War, and Warfare.
Garland also reunited with Danny Boyle to write the two upcoming follow-ups to 28 Days Later.
A third new film in the series is also planned, but it hasn’t been fully financed yet.
Annihilation is available now on Prime Video UK and Ireland.
The inaugural print issue of Digital Spy’s magazine titled “British Comedy Legends” is available for purchase! You can grab a copy from your local newsagents or buy it online for £7.99 right away.
