A first teaser trailer for the sequel to Godzilla Minus One, titled Godzilla Minus Zero, is out now. It offers fans a glimpse of familiar faces and a new setting as the monster continues its path of destruction.
Following the success of Godzilla Minus One, Godzilla Minus Zero is the first Japanese movie filmed specifically for IMAX. It continues the story, taking place two years after the events of the previous film, which explored the consequences of World War II in Japan.
Although specific details about the story of Godzilla Minus One haven’t been released yet, footage from CinemaCon showed that Ryunosuke Kamiki will once again play Kōichi Shikishima, a former kamikaze pilot, and Minami Hamabe will return as Noriko Ōishi.

Okay, so the new teaser just dropped, and it looks intense! We see Kōichi back in the cockpit, clearly on a really tough mission. And get this – a kaiju actually attacks a plane! But the part that really got me was Noriko. She’s looking at Akiko, their adopted daughter, while she’s sleeping, and she’s crying. It’s such a sad, emotional moment, and it makes you wonder what’s going on with everyone.
The trailer ends with Godzilla heading straight for the Statue of Liberty, hinting at a massive attack on New York City.
What to Read Next
Takashi Yamazaki, the writer and director of Godzilla Minus One, is back with Minus Zero, again working with Toho, the Japanese studio behind the original Godzilla films.
The movie comes out in Japan on November 3rd, and in the US on November 6th. We don’t have a release date for other regions yet, but we’re hoping it won’t be long before it arrives here.

The latest trailer suggests that Minus Zero won’t be a remake of the original 1954 Godzilla movie produced by Toho, as some people initially thought.
The announcement of the new title, Minus Zero, immediately sparked a lot of discussion among fans. Some wondered if the “Zero” part might be a reference to death, given its cultural meaning in Japan, while acknowledging the importance of keeping “Minus” for brand familiarity.
So, I recently found out why Godzilla Minus One has such a strange title. Yamazaki, the director, explained it a while back, and it’s actually pretty clever. He said it means a few things, but one of the big reasons is that the movie takes place before the Godzilla we all know – basically, before the ‘original’ Godzilla showed up. It’s like a reset to the timeline!
As a fan, what really struck me about the film is how it shows Japan starting from absolutely nothing after the war, and then, just when things are tough enough, Godzilla shows up and makes everything even more heartbreaking. It’s a powerful message about resilience in the face of unimaginable tragedy.
Godzilla Minus One will premiere in Japan on November 3rd, and in the United States on November 6th. More information about where and when you can see the film will be announced soon.
