Joanna Lumley Joins ‘Wednesday’ as Hester Frump: Expect Fans to Fall in Love
As a movie enthusiast, I can’t contain my excitement about the upcoming season of “Wednesday,” where we’ll get to know a fresh face joining the eccentric Addams Family! The creators behind this dark comedy sensation, Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, have been teasing some juicy details for fans. They recently chatted with Netflix’s Tudum about what’s in store for us during season two. One of the highlights they mentioned is the addition of acting legend Joanna Lumley to the Tim Burton-directed series! In her role, she brings Hester Frump, Morticia’s mother, to life on screen. You can catch a sneak peek of her in the trailer below, and I can hardly wait to see it unfold!
Regarding Lumley, famed for her memorable characterization of Patsy Stone in the popular series Absolutely Fabulous, Millar shared with Tudum:
We were thrilled at the prospect of introducing Hester, Morticia’s mother, into this season’s storyline. On our very first day on set, Joanna stepped onto the stage and embodied Hester flawlessly, hitting every line perfectly. She’s simply delightful to watch. The dynamic between Wednesday and Hester is one-of-a-kind; there’s a spark in their interactions that lights up the screen. I have no doubt that viewers will grow fond of Hester.
Joining Lumley in the award-winning series are Steve Buscemi as the enigmatic Principal Barry Dort of Nevermore, Lady Gaga whose character details are under wraps, Christopher Lloyd, Billie Piper, Evie Templeton, Owen Painter, Noah Taylor, Haley Joel Osment, Thandiwe Newton, Frances O’Connor, Heather Matarazzo, and Joonas Suotamo.
What We Can Expect From ‘Wednesday’ Season 2
In their chat with the publication, Millar and Gough shared insights about the anticipated adventures of the main character, played by Jenna Ortega, when the series continues.
On Wednesday, the trip becomes more intricate as she maneuvers through her family, acquaintances, fresh enigmas, and recurring foes, hurling her straight towards another chapter in Nevermore.
As an ardent admirer, I’m thrilled to share that the upcoming season promises even more of the captivating Addams Family saga! The enigmatic Wednesday (played by Catalina Sandino Moreno) will now be accompanied by her younger brother Pugsley (Isaac Ordonez), who will also find himself in the eerie halls of Nevermore. Furthermore, we’ll see more of Morticia (Catherine Zeta-Jones) and Gomez (Luis Guzmán) as they increase their involvement at the academy. This development, I must confess, seems to be shaping up as quite a chilling adventure for Wednesday!
It seems that you find your school family to be the most unpleasant scenario imaginable, isn’t it? I’ve always wished my parents wouldn’t accompany me to school. Wednesday, in particular, is a particularly challenging day. Poor Pugsley, he’s somewhat of an underdog among underdogs, which makes me empathize with him. He enters Nevermore for the first time, allowing us a glimpse into his school life. Each character possesses unique abilities, and Pugsley is still learning to master his own. He’s just beginning to discover his adolescent powers, as Burton shared with Tudum.
Beginning August 6, the initial half of the highly anticipated second season of “Wednesday” debuts on Netflix. The second part follows on September 3. If you feel like you might need a refresher on Season 1 (it’s been close to three years since it first aired), you can catch up on Netflix. The official summary for the second season hints that Wednesday is once again embroiled in a chilling supernatural enigma.
Alongside Ortega, Ordonez, Zeta-Jones, and Guzmán, the second season of Wednesday returns Emma Myers, Joy Sunday, Moosa Mostafa, Georgie Farmer, Victor Dorobantu, Hunter Doohan, Luyanda Unati Lewis-Nyawo, Jamie McShane, and Fred Armisen. As Guzmán shared with MovieWeb, fans will be left in awe by the developments in Season 2.
