Dragon Ball Super: Goku & Vegeta’s 10 Overused Moments

In the initial version, Goku consistently stole the limelight, leaving other characters somewhat overshadowed. However, in Dragon Ball Z, there was a balance as Gohan, Vegeta, Piccolo, and Krillin also received significant focus. Over the past decade, the series has primarily revolved around Goku and Vegeta, leading to instances where the narrative felt contrived and excessive.

In Dragon Ball Super, Goku and Vegeta are the primary personalities, yet it doesn’t necessarily mean they should dominate every narrative. Surprisingly, in each arc, they tend to grab the limelight, often overshadowing other characters who could effectively lead the plot. Even when it seems appropriate for secondary characters like the other Z-Fighters to shine, their actions seldom have a significant impact because the story frequently revolves around Goku and Vegeta.

Vegeta’s Fight Against Beerus is Pure Fan-Service

In “Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods”, the main character is undeniably Goku, as this film was specifically designed to highlight the star of the series. However, it may seem surprising that Vegeta receives such a significant amount of attention in the plot.

Although Vegeta is one of the most beloved characters in the Dragon Ball series, it’s not logical to claim that he’s the sole Z-Fighter apart from Goku who engaged in a genuine battle with Beerus at that particular stage. In fact, at that time, he was still noticeably weaker. The power surge Vegeta experienced due to his rage seems illogical within the series’ context, and it appears this event was primarily included to cater to his fans.

Everyone Except Goku and Vegeta Are Helpless Against Frieza and His Minions

Instead of focusing solely on a single character like its predecessor, “Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection ‘F'” highlights an ensemble cast of Z-Fighters. Characters such as Gohan, Piccolo, Krillin, Master Roshi, and Tien Shinhan all join forces to battle the Frieza Force. The ensuing action scene is truly awe-inspiring; however, it’s so detached from the main plot that it could potentially be removed without significant impact.

The Z-Fighters can only manage to fight off the foot soldiers of Frieza and Tagoma, but struggle against these powerful enemies themselves. Gohan and Piccolo are no match for them. Their main role seems to be buying time until Goku and Vegeta, who have transformed into Super Saiyan Blue, arrive on the scene. This new duo then takes control of the situation, establishing a new normal. If the Z-Fighters hadn’t been there, the heroes would have needed to use the Dragon Balls to resurrect anyone killed by Frieza Force members after the battle was over.

Goku and Vegeta Win the Tournament of Destroyers on Their Own

In a humorous twist, the Universe 6 Saga’s Tournament of Destroyers was hyped as a five-on-five battle involving Goku, Vegeta, Piccolo, Fat Buu, and the supposedly strongest warrior, Monaka. However, the joke backfired when it turned out that Monaka was weak, and the treatment of Piccolo and Buu was far from amusing. In fact, Buu dozed off before the tournament even began, while Piccolo lost the only fight he entered.

In simpler terms, the storyline of Dragon Ball Super could have been more engaging if it had focused on the development of characters like Piccolo and Buu during the tournament. Instead, the narrative primarily revolved around Goku and Vegeta, which might have been disappointing for fans who were hoping to see these other characters grow and evolve.

Goku and Vegeta Hog the Spotlight During the Fight Against Zamasu

In his own storyline, Future Trunks is primarily perceived as the main character at the start and end, but for the majority of the arc, it’s actually Goku and Vegeta who take the spotlight. They are the ones who engage in most of the action against Goku Black and Zamasu, they are the ones who delve into their origins, and they are the central figures throughout.

Instead of just having Future Trunks tag along, more focus could have been placed on him in the storyline. He could have played a more proactive role in solving the mysteries, his connections with Gohan, Trunks, Future Mai, and Android 18 could have been further explored, and his transformation into Super Saiyan Rage could have been developed with a stronger build-up. Future Trunks deserved to be more than just Goku and Vegeta’s sidekick.

Dragon Ball Super’s Filler Episodes Should Have Exclusively Focused on the Supporting Cast

One delightful aspect of the “Dragon Ball Super” anime lies in its casual, comedic episodes that serve as a break from the main storyline. These moments are playful and refreshing, often focusing on secondary characters. However, even during these laid-back episodes, Goku and Vegeta tend to insert themselves unnecessarily.

In the layout of “Dragon Ball Super”, it’s easy to see why the Z-Fighters might get overlooked occasionally. However, what seems hard to fathom is persistently incorporating Goku and Vegeta into tales that other characters could handle competently on their own. A story could center around Krillin, Gohan, Goten, or Trunks without requiring the main leads to participate. Matters worsen when there are filler episodes that solely focus on Goku and Vegeta.

Many Members of Team Universe 7 Are Underserved by the Universe Survival Saga

During the Universe Survival Saga, Goku and Vegeta both take center stage, but in contrasting styles. While Goku maintains his leading role even on a team of ten for the Tournament of Power, Vegeta receives an unusually large amount of screen time compared to his minimal importance in the arc.

In a more engaging and conversational style:

Goku’s battles are presented in an incredibly impressive manner compared to others, setting him apart from the start as the only one who could potentially defeat Jiren. Although it can be frustrating, particularly considering how Krillin, Tien Shinhan, and Piccolo are underutilized, it’s not as bad as the way Vegeta is handled. Despite having no significant character development or personal storyline throughout the Tournament of Power, Vegeta manages to survive for most of the competition, outlasting many other contestants. However, his new Super Saiyan Blue Evolution transformation doesn’t seem to have much impact in the end.

Gohan and Piccolo Were in Broly’s First Movie, But Not the Remake of It

The movie “Dragon Ball Super: Broly” is skillfully crafted with a compact cast, which contributes to its quality. Unlike some other stories, this one primarily revolves around Paragus, Lemo, Cheelai, and not many others. This focused approach seems to work well as it avoids being overly crowded. Interestingly, there was no apparent necessity for the main characters in this film to be Goku and Vegeta.

In the original movie “Dragon Ball Z: Broly – The Legendary Super Saiyan,” the main characters were Goku, Vegeta, Gohan, Piccolo, and Future Trunks. However, in a modern remake, it might not make sense to include Future Trunks. The movie could have alternatively featured different lead characters. Interestingly, there aren’t many stories that focus on the duo of Goku and Gohan, and Vegeta and Gohan don’t interact much one-on-one. Also, having Piccolo join Goku in the Super Saiyan battle could have provided a unique outside perspective.

Only Goku and Vegeta Were Needed to Stop Moro

In the struggle against the Moro Corps, I found myself joining forces with Gohan, Piccolo, Android 17 and 18, Tien Shinhan, Krillin, Master Roshi, and even Yamcha and Chiaotzu, under the leadership of Jaco. Regrettably, some members like Yamcha and Tien didn’t live up to expectations during battles, while others managed to secure victories. However, much like in the Resurrection ‘F’ Saga, all these hard-fought battles ultimately held little significance.

In comparison to Goku and Vegeta, even the strongest prisoners held by the Galactic Patrol appear weak. Goku, in fact, could defeat an opponent who had previously overpowered Yamcha, Tien, and Chiaotzu with a single punch – a feat that speaks volumes about his power level. Unlike in the Universe Survival Saga, however, this series lacks the engaging character development we’ve come to expect; it seems more focused on light-hearted, superficial elements instead.

The Granolah the Survivor Saga Has No Room For Supporting Characters

In the Granolah the Survivor Saga, pacing issues seem prevalent as it primarily revolves around an extended battle, which appears to be unnecessarily prolonged. The initial portion of the storyline serves as a prelude for the intense clash between Goku, Vegeta, Granolah, and Gas. Unfortunately, the entire second half is consumed by this single confrontation, leaving little room for involvement from other Z-Fighters. A significant chunk of 20 chapters is dedicated solely to this prolonged conflict.

Enlarging the narrative of the Granolah the Survivor Saga could have significantly enhanced the story. Having multiple storylines would have kept the pace lively, and given attention to the series’ secondary characters who often took a backseat. Since Granolah and Gas aren’t particularly engaging characters, introducing more dynamic figures could have added excitement to the storyline.

Goku and Vegeta Waste Valuable Screentime That Should Have Gone to Piccolo, Pan, and Gohan

Super Hero” largely focuses on characters like Piccolo, Gohan, Pan, and even gives more emphasis to Goten and Trunks from the manga version. Despite being brief in duration, it includes a fight scene between Goku and Vegeta. The fight is thrilling, and its conclusion is unexpected, but it doesn’t connect with any other aspects of “Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero”.

The key takeaway from the scenes involving Goku and Vegeta is the disclosure that… This move was both smart and long overdue, as it should have been introduced during the Granolah the Survivor Saga. If we hadn’t spent time on this development here, Gohan might not seem like such an added element in a movie where he appears to be one of the main characters.
