TikTok Wellness Influencer Apologizes After Backlash Over Using Weight Loss Drug
Health blogger Janelle Rohner is facing criticism following her admission and apology about utilizing a weight-reduction medication.
In 2020, the TikTok sensation, now aged 37 with a following of 5.2 million, has become well-known in the realm of fitness and health, having built her reputation on this popular app.
Previously, it came to light that she has been taking a drug from the GLP-1 class. This revelation has ignited anger, with many calling for her to reimburse those who bought her $200 weight loss program, as they feel misled.
The Macros 101 plan is touted as providing individuals with the opportunity to achieve ‘nutritional independence’ and potentially transform their lives.
One user posted online, ‘If you’re seeking empathy, it might be wise to repay some of the money you owe others. You started taking medication around the same time, after all.’
As a devoted mom of two, I, Rohner, extend my heartfelt apologies to anyone who may have been misguided by me. My intention is to rectify the situation and set things straight.

Rohner didn’t disclose which particular drug she was taking, however, the well-known GLP-1 drugs include Ozempic and Rybelsus (Mounjaro in some regions).
The controversial video, which sparked initial criticism, was a reaction to a question posed on social media: “Are you Ozempic or Rybelsus?” (Note: Mounjaro is not a recognized brand name in this context, but it’s often used as a shorthand for Tirzepatide, which is the active ingredient in Mounjou-Qil and Rybelsus is the brand name of a different medication.)
In a vibrant, sky-blue sweater, Janelle made an appearance on TikTok in a brief 25-second clip, expressing, ‘This question has been popping up everywhere on my page, on every video I’ve posted for the past couple of months, so let’s discuss it.’
Instead of this platform, she guided her followers to another one, explaining, “I’ve created an entire YouTube video due to its extensive length; discussing the details here would be impractical.
The influencer expressed, “Although revealing this could expose me to criticism, choosing silence means giving up a valuable part of myself – my authenticity. It’s essential for me to maintain transparency with everyone.
In her five-minute YouTube confession, she revealed that she began collaborating with a physician, and together they chose to incorporate a GLP-1 into her treatment regimen. It’s important to note that GLP-1s are not some sort of magical solution.
The tool doesn’t transform your daily routine immediately; instead, it serves as an aid. However, my attendance was still required: attend my meals, record my macronutrients, consume water, take walks, perform exercises – all the principles I advocate for and follow myself.
It’s provided me with the feeling of being back in charge again, and I’m not embarrassed about having it as part of my life.

Prior to revealing the truth, the San Diego-based nurse made it clear that if you’ve been keeping up with me for some time, you are aware that I’ve given many things a try – keto diet, macro counting, workouts, lifestyle changes – and I have consistently shared my experiences, both successful and unsuccessful.
Recently, there’s been a surge of queries regarding my wellbeing, updates, and changes in my life. I don’t intend to sidestep these questions. Therefore, let me address them now: Indeed, during the past year, I’ve chosen to make some fresh decisions concerning my health.
She explained that since beginning the GLP-1 meds, she’s scaled back to a microdose.
Following a span of around three months, I managed to shed off the persistent 10 to 15 pounds. It brought me immense joy. To maintain this weight loss, I opted for microdosing occasionally, doing so perhaps once a month. Additionally, a significant breakthrough in my lifestyle changes was incorporating regular therapy sessions into my routine. This, Janelle shared, has been an incredibly effective tool for me.
Her fans didn’t hold back as they left critical comments across her various social platforms.
On Instagram, someone commented, ‘I wish you had been truthful from the start. You portrayed yourself as part of the group not using GLP-1 medications. Really disappointing, young lady.’

Someone else referred to the scandal as ‘disheartening,’ and stated, ‘Yet another health influencer has fallen.’
The person corrected, “You seem to speak on a topic merely because it’s frequently brought up, rather than out of sincerity.
Another way to phrase this could be: Some social media users criticized the phrasing of the blonde mom’s apology. They argued that saying ‘”If people felt deceived, I’m sorry” is different from saying “I’m sorry I deceived people.” The first statement seems less accountable as it does not explicitly admit to having deceived anyone, while the second one does.
As a devoted nurse grappling with post-menopausal weight issues myself, it’s hard not to express my disappointment towards you, regardless of the accolades or explanations you might offer.
Janelle pledged to issue refunds to anyone who felt deceived: ‘I continue to strongly support the practice of tracking macros and the exercises I teach, as well as my classes. I didn’t use a GLP-1 medication because I don’t have faith in my classes or the macronutrient tracking wasn’t effective for me.’
I performed the action primarily for personal and wellness purposes, utilizing it as a means to achieve my objectives. If anyone was misled by this, I genuinely apologize from the bottom of my heart. I am prepared to issue refunds to anyone who purchased a class within the past eleven months.
To summarize, she outlined the following points:
1. I monitor my macronutrients (macros).
2. I engage in regular exercise.
3. I advocate for a high-protein diet.
4. I encourage physical activity and staying active.
5. Occasionally, I use a micro dose of GLP1.
6. I am undergoing therapy.
7. I take medication for both anxiety and depression, which has also contributed to my weight loss efforts.
8. If you choose to stay here and join me on this journey and offer your support, know that it’s greatly appreciated.
In other words, she’s sharing her lifestyle habits, including diet, exercise, and medication use, as well as her therapy sessions. She invites anyone who wishes to follow along with her weight loss journey and provide support to do so.
