SVU Fan Favorite Stephanie March on Possible Return and Her Bond with Mariska Hargitay

Stephanie March shared her thoughts about the possibility of rejoining Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.

I’ve been a diehard fan since the early 2000s, and there’s one character who’s always held a special place in my heart – Alex Cabot. She graced our screens as the Assistant District Attorney on that iconic NBC series from 2000 to 2003, a role she reprised in special guest appearances all the way up until 2018.

In a conversation at the City Harvest Presents The 2025 Gala: Carnaval in New York City on Tuesday, April 22, March stated that it could vary depending on the specific story, but they have talented authors. After all, nothing is impossible, isn’t it?

She said that the power to bring her back may be in the hands of the show’s fans.

It seems that if individuals continue to write, then a write-in campaign might be an option for you. That’s the only idea I have at the moment.

The Mr. and Mrs. Smith star also said that she catches up with her SVU co-stars on the regular.

She excitedly mentioned that she gets to frequently meet Chris Meloni, Mariska Hargitay, BD Wong, and many other delightful individuals, which is fantastic news!

Stephanie also mentioned what she’d like to see next for her friends on the show.

She expresses her hope that they continue to have jobs, just as everyone else does. That seems to be the best anyone in acting can aim for at this moment. Her hope is simply that they keep… their employment.

Discussed was the dynamic between detectives Olivia Benson and Elliot Stabler, portrayed by Meloni and Hargitay respectively, in their series.

She stated, “They’re consistently excellent, truly astonishing! When they collaborate, it’s simply remarkable and hard to believe.

Despite parting ways with SVU following season five, the series significantly influenced her life and sparked her enduring passion.

She sits on the board of the Panzi Foundation, an organization that aims to eliminate the employment of sexual violence as a tactic in war within the Democratic Republic of Congo.

March serves as a member on the board of OneKid OneWorld, an organization that amplifies access, education, and prospects for women and girls primarily in Kenya and Central America.

She was inspired to join the organizations by a storyline on SVU during season 11.

She recounted the incident vividly, for it was called ‘Witness’. In this story, a person, initially hesitant due to being undocumented, found herself as both a witness and a victim of atrocious war crimes in a rape case.

At that moment, it seemed like something was deeply ingrained in my mind. Therefore, I can’t help but think that, to some extent, everything that occurs has its own purpose, as she expressed.

Initially, taking the job didn’t necessarily mean I anticipated this specific outcome. However, once I started working, I found the subject matter both troubling and intriguing, which led me to be more purposeful about it. It wasn’t something I could easily dismiss when I returned home in the evening.

I find myself deeply driven to champion the cause of women and girls who have endured sexual violence. This violence not only strips us of our bodily autonomy but also frequently infringes upon our legal rights, including our ability to work.

‘To my mind, this place witnesses the swiftest and most brutal destruction of women and families. It struck me as the right spot to channel my energy and dedicate my efforts.’

She emphasized that she carefully considered the ways she would engage and utilize her influence, as she put it.

Additionally, I’ve been fortunate to discover several spots where my interests align, and I’m genuinely enthusiastic about them.

Previously wedded to renowned culinary expert Bobby Flay for a decade, Stephanie later tied the knot with financial advisor Dan Benton, aged 58, in the year 2017.

The couple were introduced by a mutual friend in October 2015.

According to their account to People, they gathered for drinks at the West Village’s Orient Express bar and later enjoyed dinner together.

However, their initial romantic encounter took place during a TED Talk by education pioneer Sal Khan from the Khan Academy. This was followed by an engaging four-hour conversation between the two afterward.

‘Dan adores her and supports her,’ the friend added.

For about a month, he had been dating her. On the day following Stephanie’s 43rd birthday, which was July 25, 2017, during their getaway in Greece, he popped the question.

On September 1st, they exchanged vows at their home in Katonah, New York, with their family and a small circle of friends present.
